Hey gang! David H.M. Lambert here from cowtown (Fort Worth, that is.)
I just stumbled onto this forum on a referral from Joe J. Thomas and thought I'd take a peek. A little background on me... I've been an actor since 1981 working mostly onstage. Theatre is my first love and it's what I'm most passionate about. I started working in voiceovers in the early 1990's doing IVR work for a communications company in Richardson, Texas. But because I had three jobs (I.T. Manager by day, actor by night, and VO talent in between,) I had no social life, so something had to give. It was a difficult choice, but I let go of VO. Fast forward to the summer of 2004... On the very day of my 11th anniversary in my job as an IT Manager, my boss called me into his office and said, "David, you're a good guy, but we're eliminating your position. Happy anniversary." ![]() So with a few month's severance in my pocket, an actor friend of mine (who is also very active in VO) suggested that I dive into VO again. I didn't want to spend my grocery money on an expensive demo, and I had the experience and technical expertise to record and mix my own demo, so I did. When I asked my friend to give me feedback on my demo, he said, "That sounds great! Will you record one for me too?" And Lambert Studios was born. I purchased studio equipment off of eBay (without going into debt) and started turning a small profit within my first quarter! Since then, I've teamed up with my actor friend who not only works in VO, but teaches acting and improv and has been a lecturer at many universities across the U.S. and we've developed a small array of voiceover workshops and services to help actors with their VO careers. Today, we have talent coming from across the country to record demos and take our workshops. We also produce radio spots, IVR, web audio, podcasts, and vocalist demos. I tell you, I never thought I had the discipline to work for myself, but it's actually so much more rewarding when you do! Knowing that the late hours you spend developing YOUR business and that it goes to benefit YOU instead of making someone else richer is such a delight. Best wishes to you all! |
