A rather shy greeting to all of the respectable talent posting on this forum!
But hello! I'm a 19-year-old college sophomore in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. I've been doing some amateur VAing for fandubs and original radioplays for awhile, and I even started taking acting classes and singing lessons at college to improve my voice and acting. Now I'm attempting to develop my skills further. Sadly, I'm having quite a hard time trying to find local coaches, classes, or seminars. Although I'd love to go to the Chicago area, I simply don't have the money to do traveling -- and almost all of my money is going to pay my ridiculously high tuition. On a happier note, I did just purchase a Rode NT-1A mic and am about to buy a pre-amp once I get my next paycheck. Any suggestions for good pre-amps (I'm especially interested in finding out about the quality of USB pre-amps) would be incredibly welcome. Anyway, I'll probably not be incredibly active on the forum because I have severe carpal tunnel and tendinitis (I had to give up a music education major because I can no longer play my instruments), but I thought it would be rude not to introduce myself. Best of luck to all in their voice-over adventures! Cynthia "Cerhiunnhn" Clarke |

Hi Cynthia,
Welcome to the group! Thanks very much for the great introduction ;-) You've got a good start going. Fan audio is a nice way to practice, and the singing and drama classes are an absolute must. There's a lot of acting in good voice over. For some low-cost options, you might see if you can locate a community theatre or improv group to become part of. Both of these will help with character development and voice acting skills. Books are another way to get a handle on the industry. Plenty of good info and helpful people here. Take a look around and be sure to ask if you don't see what you're looking for. Hope your carpal tunnel is on the mend... See you on the forums, Joe J Thomas Joe J. Thomas Acting Portfolio |

Thanks so much for the welcome, Joe.
I'll be on the lookout for some theatre groups which meet when I'm not in classes; it shouldn't be too hard to find a group, since the Twin Cities is very theatrically active, but finding time in my schedule is generally the trickiest part of joining and attending group meetings. At the moment, I try to do as much as I can with the thespian club at my school. We have a very large joint theatre program between my college and an all-girls school, so I'm going to see what resources they might have as far as books or stage-acting training go. I'm very happy to be a part of this forum, and my carpal tunnel is slowly getting better. I can't wait until I can be regularly active online. Until then, take care. |
