I have been a member for a while but have been mostly a lurker. I wanted to introduce myself to the group.
I have a TV/radio background from mpffs (in case you didn't know that is a mumble) years ago. I did some VO work back in the day, made a little money but I was more on the technical side. When I left broadcasting I left the VO behind as well. I now work in the IT industry at a help desk. A couple of years ago I had contact with one of our field techs who lives in California. As luck would have it he is a film producer as well. Whoda thunk it? Someone out of the blue in Southern California has a job but is really a film producer. What are the odds? Anyway he liked my voice and asked me if I had ever done VO and would I be interested in auditioning for a documentary he was producing. I got the job. The film has just now been released. This got me thinking about getting back into VO to supplement my income and contribute to my retirement fund. I would eventually like to do VO full time. I have taken a couple of 8 week classes here in Dallas with Bob Michaels. I have also had a couple of sessions with Philip Banks from the UK. I am by no means a professional yet. My audio studio is a typical beginner setup. The audio chain is a Rhode NT1A to an Alesis Multimix 8 USB mixer. I have a Sound Blaster audio card that came with my Dell computer and use Sound Forge Audio Studio to record. I am also playing with Sony Cinescore to do some mixing. I plan on upgrading the hardware as my income increases. I haven't recorded a demo yet. I've been practicing my a** off and expect to get the demo done in the first few months of 2008. Once that is done I will finish my web site and be open for business. I'm a member of a couple of VO boards and have gotten a lot of great information from them and I hope to add to my knowledge here. This is probably waaay more information than you wanted to read but I sometimes write novels when I post. Sorry.

Hey Ron!
Great intro - just what we like... Sounds like you've got a good plan in place, and you're well on your way. I use Sound Forge also - it has some great features. Just enough without the nasty learning curve. Anywho, a big "Howdy" from me, and I hope we hear more from you on the forums. Welcome, Joe J Thomas Joe J. Thomas Acting Portfolio |
