[size="2"]I've been encouraged to introduce myself. I thought I could sneak in under the fence, but oh no...
The first day I arrived at this site, I put my name in the hat to review Julie Williams' CD Study Course. And what do you know--she picked me. One of the many things Julie encourages us to do, as marketers, is to join in social media. So here I am, trying out a new verb: Posting. My VO story started back in art school when I was involved in many performance art venues and discovered I had 'a nice voice'. (I am an artist, I paint and draw and soak up all the art I can.) Then I did PR for a recording studio and became their on-call female voice. "Hey, Vicki is upstairs, let's get her behind the mic!" At the time I did not pursue a VO career and went into gallery management and museum education. I was too politically high-minded back then; "I would never do voice-over for the evil McDonald's corporation." As if that would be my next call! Flash forward to 1999: I have a 2 year old son and a 3 year old daughter and a husband who works all the time. I decide to pick up voice-over again, stay at home with the kids and make a few bucks. Since then, everything has been a series of 'now I have to's'. Now I have to audition from home. Now I have to get better recording equipment, now I have to figure out the online services, now I have to get a website, and now... hello social media. I surprised myself by winding up as a copywriter also. It turns out that reading all those scripts gave me a good perspective on writing for the listener rather than writing for the reader. I'm employed by a broadcasting company and write for 3 radio stations. I did poke around on another VO board a few years ago, and it seemed like a lot of posturing. 'My mic is bigger than your mic' stuff. This forum is really enjoyable. People are opinionated but kind, and quite good at expressing themselves! As for my VO career, I am in it for the long haul---until I'm that crackling old voice of Mother Nature. Cheers and good things to all. I look forward to your posts. Vicki Amorose

Hi, Vicki --
Great story of introduction. I've enjoyed "meeting" you here. Be careful -- this posting thing can become habit-forming. Love your avatar -- that's Billie Burke as Glinda, right? Such fun -- what a voice she had, huh? Warm welcome! |

Welcome, Vicki! It's great to learn more about you! Talk about life taking you in directions, huh? I'm glad it seems to have gotten you into a place you're happy to be in. That's always the ultimate goal - whether there are more "now I have to's" or not, right?
Looking forward to hearing more about your perspectives on this wacky business. ![]()
