Default Hello there...newbie too

My name is R'nel from the Philippines, I'm in my mid twenty's, I don't have any experience with

voice over or voice acting. However, I did have a job for 2 years that required me to use my voice. I worked as

one of the offshore customer service representatives for Citi Cards, and PayPal Inc. My most recent work is Learning

Specialist; specifically, North American English Accent Trainer, which I have resigned just last May. Now, I'm

a full time bummer. Nah. I think I'm just not happy with a 9-5 kind of work. What I do now is just spending a

lot of time studying at home how I may build my career in the voice over industry. I am also taking tele-workshop.

I'm a student of Debbie Munro. Anyone else who might have an idea about any tele-workshop that I could

participate in, I'd wonderfully welcome it.

This site is really great. I hope I could find friends here.

Thanks

Welcome, R'nel! I've taken a couple of workshops with Debbie myself, and she's really a wonderful teacher. I'm sure she'll be able to really help you out! Good luck with everything and please do keep us posted about your progress, ok?

Hi R'nel - welcome to the forum!

What a wonderful name. I'm sure there are some great marketing things that can be done with it.

Good to hear you've found a coach to work with. That will help you immensely. Can't beat a good guide and some hard work.

Hope to hear more from you on the forums,
Joe J Thomas

This is the first time anyone has a say about my name. (*chu_ckles*). I'll do take note of that. Thanks Joe. Truthfully my

name is a brainchild of my parents peculiar naming system here in the Philippines; where we three boys took the initials of

our first names from our Mother's first name, and the names of my four sisters got it from our father's. I don't know, though, if

that's odd in the States. Honestly, I've been expressing disapproval with how I was named to my parents every time we

have heated family conversations regarding OUR NAMES. My name has this rot kind of sound wafting in the air once it's

being spoken here. Natives way of producing the sound is irritating, the back rolling of the tongue is so pronounced. Like

the German 'r'.

So much for the name. Joe, you have a fantastic website, it's not to be sneezed at. Really great. I will do touched base

here anytime that's for sure, especially now that I'm finding my way in the industry. Thanks again.

More power to you and your team of brilliant people.

Thanks for the kudos on my site, R'nel.

From your story I can see how a unique name can be both a blessing and a curse. Now's the time to take advantage of the "blessing" parts!

I actually have an Ex in Texas named "Raynelle". It's a combination of two relative's first names. She really owns it, and prefers it to her first name (which is a bit more common). My name is common enough that I've had producers ask me if I chose it as a stage name! Ah well, such is life.

Hope your weekend is going great,
Joe

Hi R'nel! Greetings from another newbie.

At the very least, you have a unique name and didn't fall prey to the nicknaming system like one of my cousins did (her name is Kristine but her folks and siblings call her "Tin-Tin" or "Tin.")

Or did you...

(dun-dun-DUN!!)

Anyway, welcome aboard. Lots of great stuff here.

Take care,

--Abner

Truthfully there are those who made fun, especially my friends, with my name. They sometimes call me Arn-Arn, sort of teasing. My grandpa used to call me Toting. At home I'm called Nhonoy.

Thanks for welcoming me Abner. Great to be here.

Yeah, fortunately (I think), I didn't fall into the nickname "trap."

Although my little sister still calls me "Kuya" or "Kuy."

I supposed that could be construed as a nickname...of sorts.
