It's all too easy to keep putting things off. You know, things like the laundry, or getting the car washed, or telling someone in your life how much you mean to them and that you're sorry.
For me, getting a demo reel is one of those things that I have so far failed to do. It's not that I don't have the talent - Byron, Andrew Winfred and Michael Collins on Darker Projects, Professor Strange, a SCAR Trooper and Edgar Allen Poe on Pendant, Bastion and Gestalt over at R5 Central et al. It's just that I've been too unfocussed and busy to get round to doing it. So, for 2008, my resolution is to pull my finger out and get that demo reel done and really start earning from my voice. I have my dreams of being a professional voice actor, but at present they're being sidelined by time and busyness. No more. And yes, there are several people I still need to apologise to, or tell them how much they mean to me. After all, I have to apologise to myself for not doing this sooner.

My Voiceover New Year’s Resolution: I will evolve beyond providing simple voiceover services, and establish a podcasting consulting and development services business to highly targeted corporate and non-profit clients.
Podcasting is an exciting form of new media, but it’s also a powerful means of allowing a business or non-profit to create intimate relationships with their customer, clients, and donors. For me, podcasting gives me an opportunity to produce work for clients doing all the things I love – storytelling, creating audio art, leveraging permission marketing, developing close relationships with clients, writing, research and interviewing, performing, and producing. My experience as a documentary producer, a voiceover and audio engineer, a journalist, a copyrighter, a marketer, and an entrepreneur position me to be an excellent provider of new media services for my clients. I plan to target small to midsize businesses and non-profits that have an explicit mission focusing on issues of environmental sustainability, green technologies, organic food, alternative transportation, education, children, the arts, and local and independent commerce. Targeting these clients will ensure that I bring my personal passion and commitment to every client. I’m really looking forward to developing this business plan in 2008! |

It’s the time for new years resolutions,
but I gave them up long ago. Then I got this email about a contest for some really cool prizes…. So here I am….HELLO! I will learn adobe Audition, to complete my home studio. Reading the manual is my mission, then recording a bunch of audio! Getting a few agents to call my own, whippersnappers who promote me a lot. One in LA, then a few across the USA, because they all know that I am hot, hot, HOT!! Getting to the computer everyday, submitting my auditions on voices. Making the contacts through email, and creating some fun, artistic choices. Doing embarrassing vocal exercises, much to my neighbor’s dismay. Taking a cashman commercial class to keep my chops up, and of course reading aloud each day. Not getting the blues when I hear all my worthy competition, knowing there is room for all of us to be great! So hear ye, hear ye- I Cynthia Holloway am resolute, to being a working voiceover actress, in the year that begins, 2008! |

I, Jon Morss, plan to follow through with the following resolutions for 2008 to best of my abilities:
I will practice the Art of Voice Acting every day. I will finally get a paid VO gig. I will market my VO business relentlessly. I will build a better web site. I will update my current demos. I will have auditions to read each and every day. I will practice more. I will have at least 2 national TV or Radio spots that air in 2008. I will voice a character in a major animation production. I will voice 3 characters in a popular video game. I will loose at lest 30 pounds in my weight. I will practice some more. I will take a VO class with Pat Fraley. I will buy more VO gear than I can afford (preferably a AKG 414, or Sennheiser 416 or Neumann U87) paid for with the money I make in VO. I will practice even more. I will attend a VO class from Bob Bergen. I will stay positive even during times of no bookings. I will help fellow VO artists when and where I can. I will be kind to all that cross my path in my VO journey (at least I will try to). And most importantly, I will have fun each and every time I step in front of the mic whether it be for an audition or for the 20th take in a bad VO session. This is my story and I’m sticking to it. The Following is my entry for the NYR Contest: (Is abbreviation ok?)
For The New Year And Beyond, I Resolve 1.) To believe more in myself and less in what others think of me. 2.) To smile with my heart and laugh more often. 3.) To truly listen to what people are saying to me...especially if those people happen to be directors. 4.) To talk less...and be paid more. 5.) To take more steps forward in my life, spending less time in the sluggish paws of procrastination. 6.) To really mean it when I say "thank you" to somebody...except for those occasional times when I'm being sarcastic. 7.) To take an objective look at what I need to improve in my life and career, and develop the strength, courage and determination to make those improvements. (This may take a while...) 8.) To NEVER forget that despite all the potential for failure, embarrassment and lack of stability.....I CHOSE to be an actor, and every time I work on a job, I get paid to do something that I truly, truly LOVE. "I am a very fortunate man." DISCLAIMER: The previous sentence actually qualifies as a realization, not a resolution. Hope that's ok... Peace and joy, exdrac |

Twas the day night before christmas and it twas my fate, to arise and start planning for 2008!
So I turned on the Macbook and typed with a mission, oh wait the teapot is whistling in the kitchen! Ok, with my bev in my hand here to sip, I can now clear my throat and start planning my trip! A trip that begins with my business, my voice, And oh what a fabulous job, a great choice! I’ll study, I'll practice, I'll sing, I'll be Suzy, or maybe a commando named Sam with an oozy. But yes, I will read, I'll get coached, I'll improve. I'll become the best voice, versatile and smooth! I'll be young I'll be old I'll be just what they need! And with Voices.com I can only succeed! I am just so excited! I just cannot wait, for the awesome things coming in 2008! Written by Patty Mattson voices.com member ![]() |

A little longer than the 200 words but my resolutions would not make much sense without the back story. So here it is:
My Resolutions for the year 2008 Greg Phelps Last year I got very lucky a couple times. I should start by telling you that I actually made the decision to do voice work about 4 years ago and went about making a demo etc…I actually got a couple jobs. However, I sounded awful. I had some talent but I had no idea how to make it work for me. Frustrated, I spent a couple of years away. Then last year I got very, very, lucky. Someone listened to me, recognized my talent and has since become my mentor, coach and friend. He helped me release that talent My plan was that I would continue to work my day job until mid 2008 and by then I would go out on my own and do voice work full time In November, I got lucky again. I was laid off my day job. ucky because it forces me to do what I wanted to do anyway. So with no money but with people in my corner, who love, support and believe in me, the plan changes, the time is now. My resolutions now all revolve around living, eating, breathing, and sleeping voice over. This year I resolve to become 120% involved in voice over. Can I do it? Even with no money? YES! Here’s how. The Details: Finish my commercial demo Get My Website complete (Both to be done before the first of the year.) Do my demos for narration, audio books, characters/animation. Begin my marketing plan: to include phone calls, networking at any event I can find, Postcards, and to remember I am always marketing. Finish the E-Book that will be downloadable on my website. The details of which I will disclose later. Establish a minor presence in the VO Industry. Become somewhat known in the industry. Continue to practice and hone my craft. The top Resolution, Continue to seek out mentors and teachers, through podcasts and books and CD’s, and learn all that I can about our industry. |

My VO goals for the upcoming year are pretty detailed and will help me reach the next level should I attain all, or even some of them. 2007 was an awesome year for me. I made my 2006 VO earnings times 7! in '08 I want to double what I did in '07. I have turned it into a good part-time income, now I need to make it a full-time income. Below are some of the ways I think that my goals can be realized, but not always in any particular order! (This may be alot more than 200 words..then again, I have alot of goals!!)(Writing these may also help me personally as well, since I will be able to read them everyday on this site.)
* First thing is to use my brand new home studio equipment to make back what it cost me. I want this thing to pay for itself in a couple of months. * Next thing for the home studio is to connect to Source Connect...by end of Feb. at the latest. Then ISDN capabilities by mid-summer. * Learn and utilize my new database software, keeping track of every contact made and following up. * Make atleast 5 new contacts per week via internet, email, phone or in person and to provide demos in the form they want them. *Sign with atleast 1 agent who specializes in VO...but ideally 4 or 5! * Use my marketing money wisely and in ways that will benefit my overall goals and ofcourse my bottom line $$. * Revamp website by end of summer. * Have 3-5 radio/tv imaging demos by end of summer and market aggressively. *Branch out even more with demos for podcasting, phone systems, virtual tours etc. * Practice my cold reading skills...which need work...on a daily basis to better perform in the studio. * Do as many daily auditions as possible with online VO casting sites * Attend atleast one workshop/VO seminar and get one-on-one coaching. * Slow spending/Stop spending more than I am bringing in. LITTLE OR NO DEBT is key! * Continue to do my vocal function exercises everyday to strengthen my voice. * Always be a student of the craft! Listen to my audio workshop/seminars on CD/Cass. in my car while driving daily. * Continue to maintain and cultivate exisiting relationships with clients, other VO talent and industry-related people. * Build new relationships with those who I will come in contact with this year. * Cut back on Mt. Dew and drink more water. * To dedicate this profession and my talents to God and let HIM direct the VO road I am to take. To not feel like I failed if I never do the type of work my peers are doing or that I feel I should do. That's it for now.....I think! Glenn Last edited by Glenn Moore; 12-24-2007 at 10:34 PM. |
