Last year was the first version. James Alburger, Penny Abshire, and myself (Frank Frederick) put the event together after I approached them with the idea.
This year I am not privy to the project. However, I can tell you very soon, there will be an announcement which might be better suited to many here on Julie's Voice-Overs.com forum. Don't spend your money just yet, you may be surprised. Toodles F2 |

Frank -- Bummer you will not be at Voice2008. I'll keep an eye and an ear out for the other project you mentioned. Please keep us posted.
Greg -- Glad to see you here. Loved listening to your VO Business panel from the Voice2007 DVD. |

I would love to attend Voice 2008 in Los Angeles. God willing, and finances permitting, it would be great for it to happen.

Bec cautious about this year. They are not paying teachers any money and thus lots of us will not be there again. I don't teach for no money especially when the promotors are making big bucks. Plus, watch for BIG NEWS about big workshop seminars coming from major players in May and June! These are not mine but other people are planning them and you should carefully consider attending these venues rather than the LA thing. Just wait to enroll at least.

Bettye -- Thanks for another heads-up. Seems like there is trouble in paradise. I really enjoy listing to your Voice2007 panel on the DVD, which I heard none of the speakers got any dough from. You guys did such a tremendous job at Voice2007 that it sort of shocks me that there were issues with that event. I'm certainly very interested in what is in the works outside of Voice2008. Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be a great event.
Is there anything that we all can do to help? |

Hey gang!
I can only speak for myself. I will be there and look forward to it!! I have no problem participating without pay for this one. Don't get me wrong!! I, as well, don't teach for free. What I will be doing is a few hours of lecture on VO, animation, marketing, etc., as well as Q&A. I won't be teaching an animation VO workshop per say. More of a public speaking engagement. My philosophy is, doing this without pay is my way of giving back. Heck, as many of you all know I spend oodles of time here and on other sites listening to demos, offering advice, etc. I don't charge for this. I wouldn't even think about it. I can do it on my own time, when I have the time. I know there are some who charge to listen/critique demos. Not my style. I'm not judging those who do. But I just don't feel it's right for me. There were so many successful professionals who were instrumental in helping me achieve my goals as a voice actor. They didn't charge. Again, it was their way of giving back. And I can guarantee if they were around today they'd gladly give of their time at VOICE. It's just the way they were. I admired them. And giving back is my way of honoring and thanking them. Don't get me wrong. I'm a business man. By participating at VOICE I'm networking with voice-over actors from all over the country. Being that I teach all over the US and Canada, by giving a few hours of my time at VOICE if attendees bring me out to their towns to teach a weekend intensive, offering a few hours of my time at VOICE will be very profitable in the long run. That's called a business strategy. ;-) It's a gamble. It may pay off in the end....or it may not. It's my risk. Offering my time for free for the chance it will pay off big time in the end. And as many of you know, I'm a firm believer in taking risks! NO way to grow in business without it!!!!! I think VOICE, like all educational venues, is a great way to network and learn from a variety of voice-over experts from around the country. No one should go expecting to be "discovered." But what you will get out of it is education, different points of view and marketing strategies that might take your career to the next level. No guarantees. It really depends on your abilities, how serious your are about commitment, your drive and passion to achieve your goals, etc. If I were a student of VO, I'd go. Even if I left with 10% more than I came in with, that 10% has more value in the whole scheme of my VO career than the cost of the conference. But again, there are no guarantees by going. It's a risk. But a risk I think is worth it! Last edited by Bob Bergen; 02-03-2008 at 12:03 PM. |
