Hey Gang,

If you had the chance to attend Voice2008, please post some of your thoughts and feelings about the experience in this thread...

Ok, here goes some of mine:

People - gotta love 'em! One of the coolest thing was getting to meet with online friends, mentors, and industry pros! The level of personal interaction can easily be forgotten from our little home studios, but I for one found it very inspiring and comforting to meet folks in person.

Pros - Although it was good to pick up new information and techniques, I was most impressed by tales of the day-to-day ups and downs in the lives of those who've "made it". They're doing many of the same things we do every day. Auditioning, being excited about their job, thinking about how to improve, etc. Great to feel like I'm on the same road...

Post - Seems like an overwhelming experience in retrospect. I will most definitely be processing a lot of what went on for a while. Kind of a neat side benefit that the good vibe will linger.

Well, that's all from me for the moment.

Voice2008 is still going on as I type.

Looking forward to hearing some of your thoughts on it ;-)

Cheers,
Joe J Thomas

Default Heeey Joe.. .where you going with that mike in your hannnd?

( think Jimi H)

Wow....

let me say that again..... Wow

As I type I am sitting at my desk, in my room at the Crowne Plaza/ Commerce Casino...... I needed to leave just before the official end at about 11?? (Joe?) to meet up with someone and then mosey on over to the Casino...

I am still a bit fuzzy in the head... adrenaline pumping for 4 days straight can tire one out...

I went to Voice looking to fulfill one simple goal. Who am i in terms of the VO world? How do I think I stand up to the others out there trying to enter the VO biz........?

What I came away with not only answered that for me, but also filled me with information and answers to questions I hadn't thought to ask!... as was said in a casual conversation this morning before the last general session... "the only people that will leave Voice 2008 with nothing, came with nothing"....

I'll post again with some more detail when my brain recovers. there is so much to say......

Communication. Isn't that what we're all about?

I loved hearing everyone's real voices from real faces -- looking into eyes, clasping hands. Sitting around a table in that gorgeous LA weather talking "shop" or just talking. I felt I forged actual real life friendships with some amazing people.

I also picked up some useful career advice -- along with some delightful entertainment -- at the sessions.

All in all, a positive experience. Good stuff. I'd do it again.

(Sorry, Michael -- I haven't any pictures -- but I'm sure some will surface eventually here.)

Default Back on the Ranch

Hello Everyone!

Connie Mustang here. Wasn't this a BLAST!!! I did take a few pictures at the Thursday night social. I will post what little pictures I have tomorrow, tonight I am going to reacquaint my body with some real sleep. Too late, it's 3 am.

I had so much fun. As I explained to Julie, I am sorry that "I didn't get the memo" but the fault is all mine. I would have loved, LOVED to have met with everyone before hand. As most of you noticed I was constantly running around, which is a typical Mustang trait, and I don't think I got more than 3 full sessions the whole weekend and maybe bits and pieces of all the rest. Was I worried? Heck no! It was being videotaped, I could listen to the sessions any time, the personal connections were far more important. It was the BEST time and I'd do it all again in a heartbeat.

I think the average amount of sleep I got daily was 5 hours, if I was lucky, but the adrenaline keeps you going. I was tired at the end of the day but I wasn’t going to miss the evening social hours, which were always fun, and made me stay out wayyy too late but I'm glad I did it.

I know I probably met some of you and didn't know you were on this list so please forgive me, but I saw so many name tags this weekend that I'm surprised I remembered my own name at times. I also had the pleasure of working with some of you, you know who you are, you guys are awesome, and I hope we can do it again.

I will relay my perspective of what I experienced during this whole thing but it will be more of a behind the scenes look. My main focus was meeting and building a VO community and I feel my cup is over-flowing in that arena. Julie, you are fantastic!!! It was great meeting you in person. Thank you for being such a wonderful person and welcoming me into the circle!!

I've got to tell you, just so you understand how much of blur some of this was. If you didn't notice, I was so busy, but so high on the adrenaline rush that things were starting to blur just a bit, especially names, which I am not good at remembering in the first place. I was so disappointed that I missed meeting you all before the conference started. But there was one name that stood out in my mind due to a silly post that I was compelled to submit a silly reply. I was determined to meet this fun character face to face. I didn't find him all weekend, and today I pretty much said okay maybe next time. Well, after they announced that I had won the grand prize, I was so excited that my head was in the clouds... missing in action when it came to observation. Lo and behold, a sweet guy comes up to me to offer his congratulations and I excitedly explained to him that serving you guys was my pleasure and that I truly feel that I received more than I ever bargained for BEFORE I even stepped into that hall this morning. I was so filled with a sense of community from everyone involved, attendees and behind the scenes, that had I missed every session, I still would feel that I got back far more than I put in. Anyway, I am talking to this gentleman, and then I look at his badge and excitedly exclaimed, "Rich Strange! I have been looking for you all weekend." How awesome is that? Rich, it was a pleasure to meet face to face.

Anyway, I will post my afterthoughts, and I would love to hear your comments good, bad or indifferent, because I plan to be on the staff again. It was so much fun!!! If you wish to, you may contact me privately and I will make sure your remarks are forwarded to Penny and James. If you would like to remain anonymous, that is okay too, just let me know ahead of time. This is a wonderful thing that James and Penny started, let's take ownership and help shape what I think will only grow as the years go on.

Well, my brain is still mush, I am still on Cloud 9, and I am one happy filly. I hope you all had a great time, I know I surely did.

Julie, Bobbin, Dave, Brad, Rich and those I did get to meet and greet, it was a pleasure. Those I did not, I look forward to meeting you at VOICE 2009, and don't forget your costumes, and it’s going to be another heck of a ride.

Galloping Back into the Clouds,

Connie Mustang

They haven't said yet, but they did mention that LA, NYC, and Chicago were the top VO markets...

Default Where oh where for VOICE 2008?

The VOICE 2008 crew is presently in the process of debriefing about this year's conference. We still need to collect all the evaluations of this year's attendees, report what we as staff observed or heard through our interactions with people, and report back to James and Penny so they can figure out what worked and what didn't to insure that 2009 is even better. So the focus has not switched just yet but you will here it from this horse's mouth first, as soon as I have that information to share.
