I let my subscription run its course with no results. The status, for me, never changed from my original post. I don't know what "extra's" you'll get from agency representation, as most of the auditions I've seen have come to me first from another agency, so VO Planet offers them up anyway and has little exclusivity, or the audition so esoteric in its requirements, they have to throw a broad net out in order to find a VO talent that fits.

I could be wrong. These are just my observations. V123, andVoices.com for me, has paid their subscription fee many times over. VOPlanet...again for me, a middle class, middle age, male VO talent.. was lost money.

The herd needs to be thinned of the hobbyist and those that think buying a mic and a music stand is all that is required to get into VO.
If only that was what they were doing...
(Bodalgo actually screens their talent, btw)

In this case, this is a completely different two-headed beast.

One is VO-Planet, where anyone with $$$ can join. Basically the same as voices or v123.

The other is VoiceCasting, which is acting as a true agent, albeit one you have to pay to join.

... and therein lies the rub for me.

IMHO, there is an inherent conflict of interest involved in being both an Agency and a P2P site.

Let's say they get an audition request in - who exactly does it go to?

The agency talent gets it first? (then why am I paying for the P2P?).

Maybe the P2P talent gets it first? (why bother being represented by the agency?)

The larger looming issues for me are that they don't seem to see (or acknowledge) the conflict of interest, and they also seem just fine being an agent that charges a fee (not kosher in my book).

If there's a rhyme or reason to any of this, I'm just not seeing it.

Either way, it doesn't seem to be my cup-of-meat,

My experience so far with VOPlanet.com is not a good one. Their customer service is pretty awful and they are very defensive when there is any issue and they run a skeleton crew. This whole notion of screening auditions to decide which ones go or not is pretty low considering all of the talent is paying them for the subscription. Well eventually talent will move on to some other site if that is the case.

I was really looking forward to signing with VOPlanet.com in the New Year. And, I still may, but this thread was definitely an eye opener on how I will approach making my decision.

Based on my experiences, I would strongly, STRONGLY urge you to sign up with either voices.com or Voice123.com INSTEAD of voplanet.

VOPlanet is an agency first. They run their business like a real agency and will scan their auditions for the best of the best and submit those only like a good agency should. The only difference between them and any other agent is that a talent can buy their way in to their roster. No qualifications are needed; just the entry fee. They receive many voicebank auditions, which are usually sent to top agencies with top talent. So, before you sign-up you better be ready to compete at that level. The irony is; if you can compete at that level you should already have an agent getting you those same auditions.

If you are looking to get a start, do what Scott said. If you are already a working stiff - you don't need VO Planet.

    Scott.

    Bobby.

Ok, I am going to step back from investing that $300 and put it towards my career in an alternate fashion. I may just need to continue to work my Voices123 as i am currently doing. This scenario has more than paid for itself in spades.

I take it this is a case of, "if it's not broken then don't fix it."

And Fentriss, correct me if I'm wrong, but you're already with Houghton Talent, right? You'll get the same leads from Sally as you would from VOPlanet.
Here's the thing I saw with VOPlanet: I, and a lot of other pros who ARE getting work, never landed a single gig with them. I gave them a year and got nuthin'.
Other local Atlanta talents that I know who DO get work and who ARE with agencies, also had zero to very low results with VOPlanet. Overall their track record seems to be pretty poor in terms of results.
