    Default HAWAII anyone?

    Hi All,

There is a lady in Hawaii who may fly to CA for my upcoming workshop... but she had an intriguing proposition for me. Why not do a workshop in Hawaii?

I've always wanted to go to Hawaii... so I'm thinking... hmmmmmm we could do that. Perhaps we could do a weekend workshop and spend the rest of the week doing group tours and enjoying the island(s) we could probably get good tour prices... all meet and work on VO... bask in sun, cycle Hawaii, etc.

What do you guys think? Would that be something you'd be interested in? A possibly tax deductible trip to Hawaii (ask your CPA...don't take tax advice from me..I'm not qualified) I kinda like the idea! I'd probably plan it for February so we could get a respite from winter weather.

    Anyone else like the idea?

    Julie,

Darn. I just came back from a trip to Hawaii. However, a workshop there sounds really great. There is an Anime Convention in Hawaii on a yearly basis which would be a great place for you to hold a workshop.

I have been to a few Anime Conventions now, including the recent one in Sac town, and the number question always asked at these venues is "How do I get into voice acting." At the recent Sac Anime convention both Spike Spencer and Crispin Freeman held 1-2 hour VO and ADR workshops but these were just an quick overview of the VO business or a Q&A session. Having someone like yourself there to give some insight and some training would be a great help to the voice actors that attend these conventions and have to answer the VO question over and over.

I'm not sure when I could go back to Hawaii but I think holding a workshop there would be real cool.

    Mahalo,

    Jon

    Default Sounds awesome!

I have no idea whether I'd be able to go, so I'm afraid I can't be officially counted in, at least not yet, but it sure sounds like it would be fun! I have family in Hawaii I haven't seen in over a decade, sounds like a good excuse to go for a visit :)

    Best,

    Alexis

I don't think I'd be qualified to teach at an anime convention, because I don't do anime. I really only do straight reads... and acting... but in commercial, narration, audiobook, elearning, etc.

While I know I have a lot to offer, and I've helped launch some pretty impressive careers in VO and radio... I don't know what I'd have to offer people in that genre.

If I did have something of value to offer them, then that would be an awesome event to link to. Right now I need to fill the Sac workshop though...so Hawaii may just be a dream for now.

Previously, I only did workshops every 18 months (no time...busy working) so this was an experiment to have two in one year...and so far, it looks like I might go back to one every 18 months!

Hawaii... now, that would be a treat! I've never been there either. Sounds like a wonderful idea for sure! Keep us posted on what you decide Julie.

At least in Hawaii, there'd be fewer consonants to pop, crack, snap and otherwise screw up... :)

    Julie,

Hawaii would be a great idea for those of us in Australia - much cheaper and easier to get to than all the way to the "mainland".

We don't get good commercial voice-over workshops here, and it would be so wonderful to attend yours.

I'm starting up my newsletter again soon down here (having a big overhaul of website and everything now that I've gone to the Mac "side") and would be glad to promote through it for the Australian market.

Keep the idea alive, please! :-)

    Mirren
