Default What is needed to get a VO business started?

    Hi Rob,

Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer this question, which is, "What is really necessary, legally speaking, to get one's own VO business off-the-ground and flying?"

    Specifically:
    • What is needed for taxes in terms of filing, deductions, etc?
    • Does one need to be incorporated, or something along the line of formally declaring oneself as a business?
    • Are there other issues that one needs to be aware of in terms of starting and running a VO business? If one provides VO services as a contractor, is this one and the same as having a VO business or is it different?
I hope this isn't too much to throw at you at once; I'm just trying to research all of the "hidden" aspects of the VO industry. Thank you again, in advance.

    Default VO Business

Hi Bruce! Thank you for asking me this question. I have gotten this question asked so many times, that I actually wrote a book about it. It is called VOICE OVER LEGAL and it is available at voiceoverlegal.com in both paper back and ebook format. I go over the very things you ask me in your question, ie, LLC or Inc, or is it even necessary, taxes, plus potential liability issues, as well as agents, Unions and much more.

    Thanks for posing the question!

A pretty legitimate and important question, actually! Usually we are so eager to get going and only concentrate and all the tech-stuff, this matters, too!

Great questions, Bruce. I see another addition to my library coming soon.
