Default I bought that Lenovo mini computer I was inquiring about in my last post.

Here is a quick rundown of it.It was easy to set up and connect. However, the built in wireless N was not detecting my N signal (just the G signal) so I installed my wireless n adapter, works just fine now.Programs load up fairly quickly. As far as the noise? It's quiet (but not silent) a slight audible fan noise, but it's a huge improvement to what I was previously using, but to get it even more quieter would be the best way to go.Now the fun part begins of reinstalling my DAW and all my plug ins and effects....I'll post more about it how it handles recording and overall noise.

Thanks for taking one for the team, there. Look forward to hearing how it performs.
I was recording and editing on a Pentium 90 laptop 15 years ago, I think you'll be fine...

Default Little update on the Lenovo

Very good so far,It's very portable and was able to isolate the noise even better being able to move the computer and soundproof the area where it's located.I recorded 10 seconds of silence with my shotgun mic and my silent levels were between -57 -60;To me that seems pretty decent comparing my other levels in the past.I had to replace my beloved firewire solo with an m-audio fast track pro due to no firewire port on my lenovo. There is a bit of a hiccup when I playback the audio (1/2 second)..latency issue perhaps?Other than that,I'm pleased with it...for now.

    B.A.T.,

Did you load the latest FTP drivers? You can adjust the latency in the FTP user console. ( I ask this because: I did the same thing when I connected the first time, just using the plug-n-play feature in Windows)

Exactly, George. That's what I always tell people shopping for a new system: you do not need the biggest, fastest one on the market to do this. Got my first PC in 97-ish, a whopping Pentium 100 with 16 (sixteen!!) MEGAbytes of RAM. And it worked. My best PC ever was a stock IBM Netvista I used for about five years, 1 Ghz CPU, 512 MB RAM. The motherboard couldn't be upgraded beyond that, which is the only reason I got a new system. Was rock-solid, amazingly quiet and at times I really miss it. My current system is a Core2 Duo 1.86 Ghz (slightly clocked tho) with 3 GB RAM. Have used it since 2006 and have no plans on replacing it anytime soon, even though it's already a dinosaur.

Now THAT was an awesome system! I remember upgrading my wife's PC from the onboard 2MB of RAM by installing an additional 8MB, then swapping out the 486-33sx processor for a 486-66dx. Boy did it fly afterward!

My current PC is a "relic", last upgraded somewhere around 2009 with an Athlon 3Ghz dual-core & 4GB of RAM. Runs Win7-64 fine & handles my recording needs (almost) flawlessly.
