"20th Century"
This is more "Nifty News" than it is a "gig gotten" but I just got cast in the lead role of Oscar Jaffe in our local theatre's production of Ken Ludwig's "20th Century".
Our 'little' theatre has grown over the past 30 or so years to a main stage that seats around 110 plus a Black Box theatre that seats around 50-60 or so, with a full season of extremely well-produced shows. It sits in an amazing 110+ year old warehouse that occupies probably about 30,000 square feet or so.
It's been a while since I've had a lead role and I was jonesin' for this one. Now that I have it, I'm wondering how I'm going to learn the 80 or so pages of script in the next few weeks!

Cool - I'm jealous!
(been off-stage for a while)
Don't fret about the lines. Always the toughest part of theatre for me, but it always makes it through my thick skull.
Kudos!

Okay, so I exaggerated; only 54 pages to learn. I've had much worse (about 90 pages in "Walk in the Woods"). Already have 3 pages down today, the first day of memorizing. Wish you could come see this, Joe.

The lines are EGG-XACTLY why I shy away from being on stage anymore...it just gets harder and harder...something that always came easy to me. Ah, life. BUT, I can work behind the scenes! Speaking of which, I will be holding auditions for our theatre's first production of the 2011-12 season, "Moon Over Buffalo". I will be directing. I performed in the lead role some years ago, so it will be fun to tackle it from this end. It's a very fun show...ALSO Ludwig!!! Looking forward to it!

Oh, and I forgot to add my public congrats to you, Scott! (Already sent them to you via FB). Didn't realize it was the lead role, though! Woot Woot! Have fun!

Yes you did, Lynne, and thank you so much!
I had the lead role of George Hay in our theatre's production of "Moon Over Buffalo" about 4 years ago and it was far and away my favorite show EVER to be in! The irony is that I had not intended on auditioning. I was only at the theatre to support my wife who auditioned, and got cast as my mother-in-law, Ethel. She was hysterical and nearly stole the show.
I spent a lot of time on YouTube studying Dudley Moore and Foster Brooks perfecting how to be a drunk.
Too much fun! Best wishes on your production, Lynne, and if there's ANY WAY you can make it down to Atlanta to see our show..........
