    Default Hello from an Uber-Newb

    Hello VO forum :) My name is Jason Huggins. I am brand new to VO, but I have a passion for recording (have been doing music for a while) and I have been encouraged by friends and pros to do some hard work in VO.

    I have been a preforming musician for about 6 years with a small history in improv. I also did some broadcasting in HS :) if you'd even count that.

    I am currently running a Shure Beta87c through adapters into my macbook and editing in Mackie Tracktion. I have an Apogee One on the way (this week hopefully).

    I have one demo, check it out in the Hotseat, however I am not overly excited about it and definitely plan on getting some coaching and putting in hours of practice behind the mic.

    I have a very strong desire to hone this into something that I can someday call a career.

    I love the recording and editing process, have no problem behind a mic in a big studio with big names. I think that this is a great asset to me, as there isn't much that makes me nervous. Being a preforming musician, I have had my share of extremely embarrassing moments and have come through stronger.

    Can't wait to get to know some individuals here, I have been watching the forum for a bit now to get tips on starting out. I was encourage by JoeActor to introduce myself and, as you guys are the pros, I did as instructed

    Welcome Jason! I am another newbie and I am also using the Apogee One with a macbook pro. I am also in private VO coaching and expect to be for awhile. From reading these forums, I think you'll find the improv and music background to be beneficial on this journey. Good luck! Laurie

    Hi to both of you. I'm kind of curious, having been at this as long as I have - what is driving so many people to voice over these days. I'm pretty sure at this point that most people realize it's actually pretty hard work just to try and get work and that most talent don't reakky ever make much money.

    So if you don't mind, how did you both come to voice over?

    Personally, I love recording. I love being behind a mic. I don't mind the work because I enjoy it. Plus, if I do it for long enough it's possible for me to get good at it. If I get good enough...who knows, there may just be a future. If not, I had fun trying :) Isn't there a quote somewhere about you've never lived if you haven't tried and failed...or something like that lol

    Well put sir! While I don't think that VO is the greatest thing in the world, I sure love getting on my computer and creating something that I can be proud of...even if it isn't perfect yet :)
