Lance: I dig your pacing on that spot - personal experience shows in a read, for sure.

Scott: Thanks! I've always called that a "lateral lisp". The tongue is wide in the mid to back of the mouth when speaking.
Give it a shot and see what you come up with...

I'd love to post some leads 'n' reads and even a demo I produced for another voice talent, but alas, I can't upload files here any more. Kinda sad when a moderator keeps getting a 'database error' message.

How'd I miss this Cannary Row spot?!?!?

Michael - you sounded really "open" in that spot. By that I mean the sound was flowing unobstructed... very relaxing.

Being considered for both of these, of course that means nothing on P2P. The Anncr is copy for two spots. The other is supposed to be play-by-play guy.

    Hey Joe,

Apparently the site is now being uber-friendly to me. I tend to even get automatically logged in now. Go figure. Anyway, I just thought I would mention that while your pelican was a great character voice, as someone who writes and produces spots similar to this Myrtle Beach one, why, in my opinion it doesn't work. Think about the context and the various situations that the listener is going to be in. While it does need to be upbeat and cute, it must be "ultimately" listenable. By the 2nd or 3rd listen, the normal tendency would be to completely shut it out. It also requires the listener to pay far too much attention in order to have any take away, as in "what did he say?"

In this particular case, the pelican wouldn't be nearly as cute, if it had a clear and crisp delivery as say a Kelsey Grammar, but ultimately, it might be more effective. (just an example)

    Lance,

First spot was a single long exuberant note. Second spot was a single long laid back note. I think both spots would have befited more from contrast. For example, you read the bulk of the spot at a 6 or 7 and then hit the important stuff with a 9 or 10 - or conversely you read the bulk of the spot at a 7 or 8 and you hit the important stuff with a 3 or 4.

A real play by play announcer might go something like, "Johnson is bringing the ball actross court, passes to Jones at the top of the key who spots Fiorenze inside - HE's Up and Michaels HAS A HAND IN - REJECTED!!!! and out of bounds THAT HAS TO BE ONE of the MOST INCREDIBLE blocked shots i have ever seen. Johnson will be talking the ball in - spies Renavitch at half court... "

It builds , it's hot, it's not hot, it's medium hot.

I hope that my comment was helpful.

I suspect you are right. However, in this case, this is what the job poster asked for:

"The client is looking for a Hanna Barbera / Warner Bros. old school cartoon character voice, along the lines of Sylvester the Cat, Daffy Duck, etc.

The character will need to sound like he's spitting consistently as he speaks.

The client would like a bumbly and clumsy sounding character. "

With that description, I would say Joe nailed it.

    Hey JS!

Glad you're back and the forum is working well again.

    Chuck - thanks!
Was just about to post the original casting and you beat me to it.

Gave 'em what they asked for. Didn't get the gig, but I won't know why. S'ok. I'm happy with the audition...
