Default Now Hear THis! - When Will We FALL Down?

Post your newest leads and reads Here! (Joe didn't have time to start this before the weekend) Just stepping up. Chuck (not UP Chuck, but up. (pause pause) Chuck)

    Here's Joe's usual Hype:

    Hey gang!

This is the place to post your Audition audio, and other short sundries...

Friendly folks will give a listen, and maybe even offer their opinions and feedback.

    Thanks Chuck!

I'll kick off the fall festivities with one of my auditions from Voices.com.

    Hey Joe,

Apparently the site is now being uber-friendly to me. I tend to even get automatically logged in now. Go figure. Anyway, I just thought I would mention that while your pelican was a great character voice, as someone who writes and produces spots similar to this Myrtle Beach one, why, in my opinion it doesn't work. Think about the context and the various situations that the listener is going to be in. While it does need to be upbeat and cute, it must be "ultimately" listenable. By the 2nd or 3rd listen, the normal tendency would be to completely shut it out. It also requires the listener to pay far too much attention in order to have any take away, as in "what did he say?"

In this particular case, the pelican wouldn't be nearly as cute, if it had a clear and crisp delivery as say a Kelsey Grammar, but ultimately, it might be more effective. (just an example)

I suspect you are right. However, in this case, this is what the job poster asked for:

"The client is looking for a Hanna Barbera / Warner Bros. old school cartoon character voice, along the lines of Sylvester the Cat, Daffy Duck, etc.

The character will need to sound like he's spitting consistently as he speaks.

The client would like a bumbly and clumsy sounding character. "

Here's one I just cut today for a record label in Nashville. If it's approved, the spot starts running this weekend!

Hey Chuck - I'd buy a CD after that spot... and I don't even like Country!

Hope it makes it through the approval process.

Thanks Joe! That means a lot! I just sent my 3rd revision, boosted my vocals over the music a little and adjusted some of the music levels. I'll know something more in the morning, but it looks like they're going to use it!

About 2 or 3 weeks ago, Cira Larkin mentioned on Facebook that she had gotten a gig for Cannery Row that had been posted on Voices.com. Several of us commented that we had auditioned for the same job and it was suggested that we post them here by way of comparison. I didn't want to start that process with the impending end of the Summer thread, but now that the Fall thread has begun, I'll post mine and I hope some of the other people who were runners-up to Cira will post theirs as well.
