Acually I was going to ask YOU about ACID!
I actually got Vegas way back from a client who I was doing some basic multi track stuff for. & I use it for one client I produce local radio spots for.
I think that it was around a bit before ACID, and apparently is used more with Video now (which I don't use AT ALL), while ACID is geared, I think, exclusively to audio.

I'd stay with ACID....so my next question is...Is ACID worth the money?Because I have Vegas 5 which won't work with Source Connect. I use the desktop version of SC which is fine 'cause the clients record on their end anyway, but I can't record any SC sessions on MY end.

    Too funny!

Acid is very easy for multi-track stuff. Let's you do loops, one-shots, and even adjusts tempo with "Beat-Mapper" if you need to match music samples. I haven't used it for video yet.

I don't have SC, so I can't comment on it. It works like ISDN, right? But you need SC on both sides for it to work?

I'm also on an older version of Acid (5.0), so I'm sure there are a plethora of new features out now.

    Stickin' with my Acid,

    Source Connect is GREAT!
It's another way to record broadcast quality sound computer to computer like ISDN but over your broadband internet connection INSTEAD of over ISDN lines.

It's MUCH less expensive (Less than $400) and that's it. NO monthly line charges or usage fees.
    It works like a charm.
Yes, both people need to have SC installed, just like ISDN.

Now, if YOU have SC and the other studio only has ISDN you can do a "bridge" session with companies like EdNet or Digiphone (They act as a bridge between your SC & the client's ISDN), but there you pay a session fee and a per minute charge, so your session really needs to be worth it to cover those costs.

In order for YOU to be able to record your SC session you need to have VST compatible software (I forget what VST stands for!) the newer audio suites all are. My Vegas 5 isn't, but Vegas 6 is. BUT even if you don't have that there is a version of SC that you get when you buy it that sits on your desktop and works great for when you are just the talent & the client on the other end is reording the session in to THEIR system.

I'm sure Colin could explain all the technical aspects better than I am!

    Peace!

    Default Software

Since I do alot of music, jingles, and imaging, etc along with the VO I do, I utilize several platforms. I use Pro Tools, Acid, Reason, Sound Forge, Vegas, Audition3...I just got and love, Wave Lab..etc..and I use them all pretty much daily. They all have different things they do well. I have the new Waves Mercury bundle that has all the Neve and SSL plug ins and they are sweet.

Like Joe said..Acid is really useful for lots of things. I do sound design and music for video/film there. Vegas is much more limited as far as looping, tempo's and things like that. I do most of my recording in Pro Tools, do all my mastering and mono/stereo editing etc, in Sound Forge. I get the feel of taking the stuff to a mastering house when I change invironments to master, and have alot more plug-ins available there (directx and vst) I also like the way the wave forms look in Sound Forge...some of the easiest for me to see and edit.

Any questions about these applications, don't hesitate to ask..I'll share what limited knowledge I have
    Jason

***Side note..I join Voices.com 2 weeks ago, and already got 2 accepted and paid on jobs...On top of the fact they are really nice to work with..I think I'm gonna like it there..

    Default Pay Dirt

    Joe -
Good to hear from you...I trust all is well...

    Concerning ..."pay dirt..."

I wouldn't go that far, but hey, I got some work already from them so yea...cool...It's funny ever since I got that gig I told you about..you know the one in outer space...It already seems to be paying off here. I did 2 spots for ESPN this week and one was with Tony Romo..well I did the vo. and the other is another animated spot for ESPN the House..it's really cool looking too.

You getting rich off the pickle yet?

Have a good St Pat's Day..stay relatively sober....someones gotta take me home.
