Now Hear This! - 2010, Spring has Sprung!

Here's one I did today on Voices.com.
Full disclosure: the last paragraph was not part of the script and was not included in the demo I submitted. It was purely for the entertainment of this group.

Yesterday there was a lead on Voices.com that had a pretty decent budget range. It was for a Canadian web hosting company. But there's a catch. They didn't supply a script; the job included everything: writing, voicing, and producing the spot(s). But the money was good enough that I thought it would be worth taking a shot.
So here's what I came up with.

Hey Rob.

Your voice has a really good sound to it. Definitely got a market niche.

On the LaRosa's, I liked the second take better. Seemed more relaxed and natural - might even go a bit further in that direction.

For Ryobi, the first take was my fave.
Couple pronunciation issues:
is it "Rye-Oh-Bee" or "Ree-Oh-Bee" (I say the second)
definitely "Nye-Cad" not "Nye-Cod".

When in doubt, I sometimes go to the customer's site and see if they have any videos. YouTube's another good source for past commercials.

The LaRosa's was recorded on a Senn 416

The Ryobi/Home Depot on a Gefell UM70S.

I'd be interested if anyone hears that one mic or the other is a better "fit" for me. I have a hard time listening objectively when making such a determination, especially with the 416 since it seems to be a mic that VO people either love or hate.

Rob, I - like probably about half of this forum - also auditioned for LaRosa's, but I really like your delivery. I love the little bit of gravel in your voice. Very, very nicely done. According to the directions I got from my agent, I'd say you hit it on the head. Good job!

Good question about the pronunciation, Joe. I THINK it's Rye-oh-bee, but looking on the net I couldn't find a confirmation on it. And you're absolutely right about nicad. Yikes, Rob! Where did nye-COD come from? A hint of British perhaps??

Okay, so to quote Monty Python... Now for something completely different.

I guess it's no secret I market myself as that 'warm and real' voice, and the attached is something SO FAR out of my norm that it makes me feel... uh... icky. But 104.7 The Fish in Atlanta needed it, and this is going on the air, so it is what it is.
