    Default My debut post!

    Hi everyone,

My name is Jennifer Cameron (you can call me Jen). And like you folks, I'm a passionate pursuer of the VO dream. Thank you so much to Julie, the administrators, and you talented VO artists for this forum - it's been a great privilege finding you and having the opportunity to share and learn from your collective experience.

I've been a performer all my life, and I've found that VO is my favourite form of expression. I've spent the last 3 years studying the craft with various coaches in my area, as well as completing a degree in theatre performance prior to that. I've spent this year working on my debut commercial demo and I'm making some final adjustments to my corporate/narration demo as well.

I think I've finally gotten to the "I know I'm ready" stage - which is really exciting, considering my perfectionist tendencies. It doesn't mean I'm not scared out of my wits, which I am, but I love this like nothing else, so even though I'm scared, I'm ready to step out there and proclaim myself a voice-over artist, and do whatever it takes to keep makin' it happen

I think I'm feeling brave enough to post my commercial demo in the Hot Seat, so if any of you would care to take a listen and let me know what you think, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks again for this great forum, can't wait to chat more soon!
    - Jen

    Hi Jen - Welcome!

You sound like you've worked hard on a good foundation for VO. That's a wonderful (and rare) thing to see. I'm sure all the hard work will give you an edge on the competition.

Keep at it. Do what you love, love what you do...

    Nice to meet you,

Joe - Domo-Kun is great, it's like a sock-monkey meets gumby. Did you voice him?

The VO industry in TO? I wouldn't know. Seriously - all the projects I've worked on so far have been gotten through online means - and I was in Internet Marketing before I got into this. Dealing with folks through email and over the Internet is second nature to me. When I started in VO (not too long ago, actually), I didn't try to get an agent in Toronto. The world was (and still is!) my oyster.

Seriously though - from what I've heard, the market here is pretty much sewn up by certain individuals who are either employed by the local radio stations in and around the GTA, or union and doing the national spots. One of them would need to *die* before I'd likely get a listen. That's ok though. As mentioned, I'm relying on other means.

Yup, I've heard the Vancouver market is similar - but I'm still planning on giving it a go when the demo's are ready. We'll see what happens! eep! It's good to know that our industry is so virtual that we don't have to wait for one of the regulars in town to kick it before we can actually start working :)

Btw - I'm really impressed that you're totally online with your vo biz - I've got so much more to learn about that! If you have any tips or recommendations for books, etc re: internet marketing - I'd love to hear them.

    Thanks!
    Jen

    Boy! Don't I wish!

Nah, I just think he's a funny character!
    And his rabbit friend Usagi.

He likes TV - how can you go wrong?,
