Just thought some of you would like to know that Voice123 has removed the TalkBack section from the VoiceOverSavvy forum.

Not surprising, just the pathetic, predictable end to a poorly managed customer service idea...

So, in the spirit of good will, I offer this heartfelt eulogy:

I, like many others, fondly remember TalkBack when he was young.

Oh! the conversations we would have!

We would ask questions, and be given thoughtful answers, packed with real meaning.

But it seemed that after the surgery, TalkBack grew distant.

Often the replies we got were "Yes Dear", or "Everything's fine", or worse "What's wrong with you?".

Soon, it was evident we were growing apart.
TalkBack was sick, and no matter how we tried to help, the end loomed like a dark stormcloud in the distance.

I still remember the day the Great Destroyer showed up in the guise of a Helpful Stranger.
Within hours, he had defiled the sickly TalkBack and silenced it for good.

Now, with the body improperly disposed of in a silent, unceremonious manner, we can only pray for the inevitable...

That TalkBack will rise, Zombie-like from it's untimely demise to wreak its horrible vengence on those responsible.

Or not.

Please join me in a moment's silence,
Joe J Thomas

I just want it to be clear that the TALKBACK section was removed as a result of a poll on the subject. Users voted to have it taken down.

Well, I never thought it should be taken down, but I stopped bothering with Savvy and never saw the poll. I saved an awful lot of the html pages (easier than doing screenshots, I discovered). I didn't save every topic from the forum, I don't think I saved any from before the switch, but I got the really long ones and a lot of the other ones after the introduction of SmartCast. So if anyone needs to see something, let me know.

I understand the arguments for taking it down, I just think the collective information and research that went into those posts should be available as a resource. Which is why I copied a lot of it.

Thanks Alexis.

I saved a few pages, mostly the more recent ones.

I also believe it is important to remember such an experience.

As they say, a leopord can't change its spots!

Here's a quote I posted from George Santayana in the Savvy Poll thread:
"Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness. When change is absolute there remains no being to improve and no direction is set for possible improvement: and when experience is not retained, as among savages, infancy is perpetual. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

There's a lot to that, IMHO...

Cheers,

Joe and Alexis. I humbly invite you to visit VoiceOverSavvy once in a while.Your presence is missed. It has been fairly active lately and starting to turn away from the angst of SmartCast. The reason we have moderators that are not employees of Voice 123 now is so they can stay out of it. So far they have. I am just as upset by SmartCast as the next guy but the forum is separate.

I'm sorry Colin, but I won't be returning to VoiceOverSavvy (VOS).

To say that no murder occurred just because you've removed the body doesn't sit well with me.

And like it or not, Voice123 still owns the house that is VOS. We're all just renters, and frankly, the landlord is not someone I want to be associated with.

I know it's difficult, but it's time to move on. Let it go. VOS had its time, and it is now permanently tainted by the actions of V123.

We don't have to meet there... the members make the forum, and many of us have moved here.

I'm glad you're over here, though...

Sometimes the best move is to walk away,
