I say thumbs up to voices.com! I believe every serious VO talent needs to be a paid premium subscriber on that site. They are good because:

Economical... only about $200/yr
You'll get leads every day. I make a lot of money from them.
You are not penalized for answering leads, as you are on another site
You are not rated by seekers who haven't hired you and worked with you
Their templates for your bid system saves so much time
Their podcasts and articles contain very valuable resources for professional talent
They are very responsive to inquiries in a timely manner

I have been with voices.com for about 3 years and will continue indefinitely. I also tell all of my students that if they take their careers seriously, they NEED to be on voices.com. I recently told a couple of clients about it, too.

Good job, voices.com! Highest praise to you for what you do.

Great place to belong. Easy and updated formats, superb customer service, and updated useful content to keep us informed.

I make money at Voices.com.

In the two years I've been on voices.com, I've received a whopping three jobs.

I get more work from voice123.com - always have, and still do. And not low ball jobs. I'm talking decent jobs.

So, I feel the opposite as some people on this one. Voices.com is a good site, but I think there are improvements to be made. Not SmartCast-type improvements, but improvements to the search (which they're apparently fixing) and just the interface itself. Overall it's a good site though.

I'd like it more if I could book more work there!

I guess this goes to show it's totally luck of the draw!!!!!!!!

Voices.com is a good site for me. I've gotten some good jobs, and repeat clients there. It's a pretty good value, they have excellent communication and personalized customer service, and the informative and interactive VOX Talk I really enjoy. Many of the jobs are in the low-end variety, but at least they have a $100.00 minimum, unlike other places out there.

This is an old thread, but I have to say that I love Voices.com - and my experience with Voice123 has been HORRIBLE. Bleh. Voices.com has always been very responsive to my questions, and I've actually booked more jobs from someone searching their directory and finding me, than I have through auditions. I'm fine with that. The site has made me money and I'll be staying with them indefinitely. I just locked in my Premium subscription (I was a preferred member for a while) this month. I also like that they allow those of us who were thinking about a membership or upgrading a membership, to grandfather our lower subscription fees if we lock in by the end of March.

They also provide a TON of interesting resources on their site. I think they're doing an awesome job and I'd recommend them to anyone who wanted to make a living from this sometimes very fickle marketplace.

WHen I first started oin Voices.com, like many others, it was a smaller site populated with mostly trained talent. One of my first gigs there was doing an in flight commercial for Japan Airlines that wound up paying me a total of $5,100. In the past few years though, the site has generally become more of a distraction than anything else.

Most of the work is priced too low for me to consider it and since I'm often out working, my response time means I'm often at the end of a long list of auditioners. Unfortunately, unlike Voice123 one doesn't know how many others have auditioned, nor is there a cutoff.

And while one could say there is no rating system, remember there is always a rating system. Things are said about talent everyday. With V123 there has been an attempt to make this a useful thing for both talent and hirers, although few talent seem to be vocal about any useful potential it might have. (Cup is neither half empty or full, but always in need of water?)

The people who run the Voices.com site are super nice and helpful. By comparison, the hipper and trendier than thou folks at Voice123 can't be btoerhed with returning phone calls or other average courtesies. I have given up on them and have just categorized them as the party going South Beach, black t-shirt wearing types they seem to want to be portrayed as.

Personally, if you ain't got training and don't know what you're doing, neither place is where you should be. I hear talk about the global marketplace, but after hearing a few hundred demos from wanabees on both sites, I'd say the marketplace has a bunch of vendors selling spoiled meat.

Nothing will substitute for lack of skills and knowledge, and giving it away for $1.99 or free won't help either.

I hear you, JS...and yes, there are a lot of bad and mediocre talent on the sites. In fact, MOST of the talent on the all the online sites are pretty bad, from what I've seen.

BUT, I DISAGREE about it not being a good place for beginners. There are enough low budget jobs coming in (as you said) that more experienced talent won't bother with, which makes it a pretty good place for new talent to get their feet wet. Granted, they don't post the $20 jobs like voice123 does, but there are a number of $100 IVR jobs that beginners would love to get... and you and I wouldn't give the time of day.

I have actually found and hired a number of good talent from voices.com and voice123. Not for $5000 jobs... but for $900 jobs. Not bad for a couple of hours work.

And recently... at least in the non-union, female category, I've noticed a LOT of jobs in the $1000-$5000 range.

I second everything Julie said. I LOVE voices.com - the leads, the podcasts, customer service and the more I work with SurePay the more I love it. Would love to be able to see a progress bar for uploading the larger files - just gave up and went around the system with my FTP for the last big job. Overall, they are simply the best and plan on being with them for many years to come. Keep up the superiour job Voices.com!!
