MJ Lallo's Marketing Yourself in Voiceover DVD is an excellent resource.

MJ does a wonderful job at explaining how the VO industry works in Los Angeles. She takes the mystery out of VO. This course was not one on how to DO voiceover...but how to market yourself in the biz...and pitch yourself for a job.

She touches on:
60 second pitch--what to say when you're calling prospects to introduce yourself
The difference between a manager and an agent
How to formulate goals for your VO business
Where to find leads
and many other marketing ideas.

I say... THUMBS UP to MJ Lallo's DVD, Marketing Yourself in Voiceover.

Default MJ Lallo's DVD Review

I just finished watching MJ Lallo's Marketing Yourself in Voiceover DVD. To sum it up in one word, WOW! Whether you are a newbie just starting out or a seasoned veteran, there is information here that you need. In such a down to earth, 'real' way, MJ talks about everything from Goal Setting to Pitching yourself to Self Negotiation. I felt as though I were in the classroom with the audience. She doesn't just stand and lecture, she encourages audience participation and answers questions. You'll love her.
I learned so much watching this DVD..stuff I didn't even know I needed to know...like the difference between a manager and an agent. Plus, there's a ton of resources tucken in the cover that I intend to check out.
Anyone who wants a successful career in Voiceovers should add MJ Lallo's Marketing Yourself in Voiceover DVD to their learning library. It would more than pay for itself a hundred times over.

Thumbs up MJ covers all aspects of voice over marketing

Having worked with an online voice over service for over 2 years, I have found that there are many experienced and talented voice over professionals who are just not as familiar with how to promote their voice as they are with using it for employment.

MJ really hits home on several points that voice actors need to remember when they are marketing themselves in voice over work. The different sections of the DVD emphasize critical elements that should be part of everyone's marketing plan.

She helps her students to learn how to focus on what their goals really are, where to find more information and training to develop their skills and the differences between having an agent and a manager.

Specific to the internet, MJ recommends a variety of websites for self-promotion. Although her exercises for pitching yourself are geared toward speaking to someone in person or on the phone, the concept is very easily carried into online auditions and personal websites. MJ's tips on self-negotiation are essential for everyone who is using online services.

I definitely recommend MJ Lallo's DVD to everyone. Even if you have been performing for years, the tips and suggestions for marketing yourself in voice over will only help your career.

Wink review MJ Lallo's intro to VO DVD

Sorry I don't remember the actual Title of the DVD (Julie! HELP!) but here goes:
This particular DVD by MJ Lallo is an excellent "primer" for anyone wanting to get into the business. She presented several aspects of the business that were terrific insights into "How it all works". Especially, in the area of "Personal Managers" which is notoriously mysterious.
Being in the center of one of, if not THE busiest VO markets in the country, gives her a definite "Insiders" view of what TO do and NOT do in order to further your VO career. I believe it's extremely important (and not taught much) to "Know your market". IE LA is not the same as San Francisco or Dallas, etc. MJ's info is especially helpful in knowing the LA, NY and Chicago markets; if that's possible, since it seems to change every week.
MJ is an excellent resource for sound (pardon the pun) instruction on marketing, developing and polishing your individual sound, negotiating fees, character work and just about every other aspect of the Biz.
Put this DVD by Mj Lallo together with Julie's "Proven VO Techniques", and any one of Pat Fraley's CD's or classes and you have just kick started your career and eliminated a ton of costly mistakes. Trust me on the "mistakes" part....I've made most of them.
There are lots of great VO instructors out there with books, CD's, DVD's etc. If you can, get them all. You'll get something worthwhile from each that will serve you well.
