Introducing Word-2-WAV, Beta Version
Word-2-WAV is an automated multi-file recording interface that makes it possible to automate any scripted recording session on a PC. For studios or independent voice talents who need to produce hundreds or thousands of audio files for interactive training programs or video games, Word-2-WAV saves countless hours of tedious file splitting and naming – which inevitably entails naming errors and loss of time in successive rounds of QA. Many options makes Word-2-WAV an attractive recording tool: Display of each segment to be recorded in context, customization of the way the segments to be recorded are displayed, saving of all 'bad' takes, ability to record alternates on the fly in case of question about pronunciation for instance, etc. The website (www.word2wav.com) includes a short Flash tutorial as well as a detailed instruction manual. You can download a 90-day free beta version. Users providing valuable feedback for debugging or improvement will receive a free permanent license.

I've had a chance to work with this program demo and it works exactly like advertised. It's a terrific interface that literally will cut your work in half. (no editing :)))))
Took me a while to learn how to format the files and search for bugs in client provided files, but it was well worth it. Just finished a 44 chapter 1200 file textbook that would have taken weeks to record and edit without Word2wav |

Just wanted to chime in here - Herve has been busy making updates to this software and is at build 211 or something like that.
In addition to 2 and 3 column Word docs and txt files, he added the ability to import Excel documents - which is great 'cause several of my clients use Excel for their scripts. I tried it yesterday on an eLearning project and it worked great. The manual is getting bigger and there are more options on the interface, but I know I will be using it frequently. It doesn't have any editing capability (I use Audition for that), but the ability to import a variety of document formats - save with the file name - insert and alternate read - and even make changes in the script and export an as-recorded file certainly makes it worth the money - I think he told me that it was going to go for around $300 or just under that. I haven't asked him yet about importing PowerPoint "notes" yet (another eLearning client uses those for the script), but I'll bet he'd try to find a way to do that! Would just have to figure out how to get the client to put the file name in the same place every time I guess. |
