Are there any other voice actors that enjoy ballroom dancing? Epic, I agree!
My wife and I have been taking lessons at Arthur Murray for over two years now, ever since Dancing With The Stars really took off. And I must say, it's a lot of fun, and it is good exercise. And I feel it has some advantages over country two-stepping at a saloon: * No smoking * No "dollar drink nights" * No drunk "cowboy" wanna-bes * And I haven't seen any vomit on the dance floor at Arthur Murray...ever! I dunno Wayne... I tried it once, but the microphone kept bouncing around, and my feet got tangled in the cords!
Actually, my wife and I have been procrastinating on this issue. We've wanted to start for a while, but just can't seem to find the time. I've got a small amount of dance from stage work (when choreographed), but can't dance anything that starts off with "5, 6, 7 8!" You'll have to post a YouTube for us to watch. I've wanted to try ballroom dancing for several years now. When I was younger I had a friend whose parents were great dancers. At their Christmas parties they would move the furniture out of the living room and dance. They were beautiful together and we all loved watching them.
Here in NW Arkansas we have a place called Snow's Red Barn. It's a little barn out in the middle of a pasture. It's family owned, so there's no drinking or smoking (not to mention no spittin' or cussin'). We go there on Saturday nights and two-step for a while. Lots of fun! ~Alan |

I used to perform with a Folklorico troupe in college, so I picked a MEAN cha-cha-cha, but that's about it. Just that and some hiphop/step/stomp, and a little tap and flamenco.
I gave up after I only made it through the second round of auditions for STOMP (out of 5 rounds). Come to think of it I gave up kinda easy... [Runs off to go get back in dancing shape] |

Yes, ballroom dancing is great... needs breath control, poise, and a good sense of humor. I'm going to try country swing tonight and looking forward to the exercise. This is really weird to have my first comment on a voiceover website be about dancing, which is where it all started for me... But hey, I need to get in the swing of this business.. no pun intended.

Wow, I'm blown away how many voice actors here also dance. That's pretty cool. The west coast swing is a dance they also teach at Arthur Murray. You're right Joe, I need to have someone video a clip of my wife and I, maybe at the upcoming Ball, and post it to YouTube.

Wayne,
* And I haven't seen any vomit on the dance floor at Arthur Murray...ever! As any well-trained instructor will tell you, if you're not vomiting... you're not doing it right! Oh wait... maybe that wasn't about dancing?! Anyway..My father used to teach at an AM studio waaay back in the day. My wife and I took a few lessons several years ago... although it was more swing than ballroom (or maybe I just don't know the difference). We learned (and have since forgotten) the Lindy Hop and had a blast... we'll have to give it another go sometime. |

Thanks for the input everyone. Without mentioning names/details, I will be mentioning this thread on the next episode of my Voice-Over Journey podcast and will include a link to this thread at my blog at The Voice-Over Journey podcast
Just an FYI. Wayne

I dance in my dreams! My ex and I took ballroom dance lessons before the wedding. If I had a partner to learn with, I'd LOVE to take lessons now!
