Default Discovery Channel Curse

The thought first came to me about 4-5 years ago, and a little Googling confirms I'm not the only one who's observed it. A major character in each of several reality shows on the Discovery Channel (or one of its sister channels TLC and Animal Planet) has met an untimely death.

It started with a show called Biker Build Off. One of the featured bike builders was Indian Larry, who died performing a motorcycle stunt.

Then there was a show called American Casino. One of the principal characters, Michael Tata, died from an overdose of pain killers (or was done in by his wife, depending on which internet source you listen to).

At about the same time, a dude named Tim Roberts, a pivotal character on a show called Wing Nuts, about guys who recycle used airplane parts into high end furniture, died.

Then Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin was impaled by a sting ray's stinger.

Last year the head honcho on American Hot Rod, Boyd Coddington, bought the farm.

And now, Billy Mays of Pitchmen has died.
