Hey Gang!
Well, things are picking up here, but we still need your audition posts to kick it into high gear. So don't be shy - post and comment! Cheers, Joe J Thomas Joe J. Thomas Acting Portfolio p.s. here's a link to the prior thread for your convenience: Now Hear This! - 2008, Jan 16-31 |

They sent a script & I went to their site for a "feel" of what would work with their format. I always go nuts on variations when there's no direction because ya never know just how particular they might be. Some guesswork, some past experience... plenty of good fortune.

And, since I sort'a committed to this....
TRUTH THREE: Seekers are a spoiled and over-indulged lot. But it's not enough. Lately, they are bringing union gigs (wherein they have hundred upon hundreds of due-paying pros from which to choose) to the great unwashed masses. "Hundreds of proven candidates? Not enough! Bring me more," they bellow. EVIDENCE: Like many of you, I was invited to audition for this. I shouldn't have been. They wanted 'thirties'. Question: if you had the CV, had your agents, and had paid your dues, would it not rain on your parade that every Tom, Dick and Mary was still wrestling with you?

So, it was you who muddied the waters and prevented me from landing that gig? (Ok, so maybe they just chose a different read ;-() Well, I wasn't invited by voice123 or voices.com, but my Agent did send me the same one. My 30's take is below - enjoy! Mmmmm... You kicked my dithers on that one, Joe. Nice job.
But I'm betting they end up going with a guy who sounds like the newspaper carrier, with 54 seconds worth of golly-gee enthusiasm. We may both have sounded too informative. We'll see. Meanwhile, TRUTH FOUR: A very small but potentially dangerous percentage of Seekers are scammers. Voicers have grown into a legitimate target: fairly plentiful, succeptible to the talk of dream-makers, and moderately affluent. EVIDENCE: I ostensibly won a NICE Israeli gig last year ($65,000). Since, however, I knew that they had never downloaded my audition (attached: this is for Reads and Leads, after all), I was ultra-sceptical. The next step was for the Seeker to explain that their entire budget was $100,000, and that "complicated banking matters in Israel" made it impossible to pay me piece-meal. Therefore, they'd send me a cheque for $100,000, and I would keep my fee and send them a cheque for the $35,000 difference. Yeah....right. I mention it because a similar attempt (Charlie Black Project) went through V123 two weeks ago, and one is currently teasing at both V123 and guru.com (...28 different conversation capsules; ESL program; needing six voices and blah, blah, blah...) Cautioningly Yours,

Nice radio gig, Chadd -- congrats!
Loved all you 30-somethings as well. Age is just a state of mind, right? And now, Robert is not only offering us truth and enlightenment, but relaxation as well. He's truly a man for the New Age. Hypnotic stuff. In fact, I was so relaxed I felt like sending money overseas. |
