Colin, I think you went the right direction, but might just need to have dialed it back a smidge.
Steve, Joe, good shots at the character, but technical issues are very pronounced in headphones. Steve, your noise gating is so aggressive it actually chops off the attack and decay of individual phrases, and makes an actual click on the attack of the word "like" at :07. Was this a hardware gate, or did you edit in post to silence the pauses? Joe, yours sounds like a less abrupt hardware expander, but there's lots of hiss under your voice. I might not have noticed, but I'm using a temporary setup this week with no monitor speakers, so I have to wear headphones for everything. (I'm discovering that many of my cleints listen to auditions the same way, so it's probably valid.) Bry, that was a fun spot! I've found Dan O'Day to have some useful exercises over the years. That particular spot would be an edgy one for a rep to take to the client...rolling the dice on whether the client would be entertained or offended by the alternate pronunciations of "Target." Personally, I think we need to take the risks once in a while. |

I found out you have to subscribe to Dan O'Day's newsletter to submit to his contest. I don't need another news letter so here's what would have been my submission...

Paul...I agree, clients have to take a few more risks with advertising in these times. No longer will "Sale Sale Sale" work for them.
Chad nice take on "The Coach" great energy and cool read ...here's what I handed in... |

Right now, I'm not using any noise reduction, so whatever's there can be heard and eliminated by my ears. Playing with the input levels pre-audio-card at the moment... Hope it gets better ;-), Joe |

![]() ![]() I did throw something in my studio while I was doing the audition. Being an Indiana native, and growing up an IU fan, Bobby was legendary. People around the state were even wearing T-shirts for a long time that said "Give Bobby The Chair". |

Haha...Eric, that "coach" thing cracked me up. Great job.
![]() You really channeled Knight on that one! ![]() (It IS Eric, right? Don't know where I got the first name, maybe made an assumption? Does the "E" stand for "electric?") ![]()

It's Electric Eric
Yes it is Eric. Thanks for the compliment on the audition. I do those auditions for fun. I always do my best, but when things come over voicebank, it just seems the odds of even being heard are infinitesimal. But I guess you just never know. Thanks though, I do appreciate it. |

Electric,
You ROCKED that-- from a fellow Hoosier's perspective. Sounded a good, natural, native accent AND a great "coach" sound. I'm pretty sure my stepdad (IU obsessed) threw a few things back at the tv in those days... not a Bobby fan. |
