Well, only a couple days late, but here's the new official July thread!
June's postings and comments were fantastic! ![]() Keep up the good work all - I can't wait to see what this month's discussions bring... Here's a link to last month's posts if you need it: Now Hear This! - 2008, June Post Away!, Joe J Thomas www.JoeActor.com |

Woohoo! A new home! (Jodi dances)
![]() Just to start us off, here's an audition I did recently (yesterday, in fact)... I likely won't get it, but I had a blast doing it anyway. ![]()

Good choice on doing a straight read on the copy. I think it's funnier that way. One note from a guy who struggles with it - gotta watch those negative thoughts (I lightened them up for you!). Our brains are wonderous in how they can manifest what we believe. Be proud of each step you take. It's good to know our own failings, but they should be looked on as a path to improvement. I know one lady who apologizes for her reads when she makes a flub. It's not that the pros don't make mistakes, it's that they've learned it's normal and can push ahead when it happens. Ok, soapbox off, Joe J Thomas www.JoeActor.com |

Good point, Joe. I think for me, it was more like, if I don't expect something, I'm able to move on more easily. Otherwise, I dwell (like, I'm sure, a lot of us.
).But yeah ... I have to be careful about self-fulfilling prophecies, certainly. And in the workshop I took with Debbie Monro, she talked a lot about the apology thing.Personally? I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I'm Canadian. We apologize for EVERYTHING. (Other Canadians can corroborate this, I'm sure.)

Ok, I'm back in the pool...
Saw a lead on Voices.com for impressions, and you know I can't resist that - Here's my take on a few of them: Off to my workout, Joe J Thomas www.JoeActor.com |

Joe... nice job! I saw that lead and gave it a shot as well. It's been soooo long since I've heard Casey that I couldn't quite remember what he sounds like.
It's funny how you use the same "Launch" words to get into character that I did... even Christopher Lloyd doing "Reverend Jim". Hilarious! (I edited mine out though). Mine was pretty weak, but here it is. BTW, as soon as I saw that lead I thought of Piotr Walczuk. Have you seen this kid? His impersonations are dead on... and he does Peter Falk and Christopher Lloyd. It's like the lead was made for him... but I don't know if he's on Voices. Check him out on YouTube. |
