Arrow Casting Call - Doctor Who: West Wind

Wanna be in a radio play?

Since we've made the decision to tone down the amount of times we use dialogue and scenes from other sources (like episodes of Xena and Buffy), we've found we're going to need to fill our cast some other way. So unless we want every cast in every story to sound like a variation of Aron Toman and Corén Idle, we need to get help from elsewhere. Hence the opening of auditions.

Below is a list for all the parts we have available at the moment for outside actors to play. It's by no means a complete list of all the actors who will be appearing in the stories listed, merely the ones we've been unable to fill through other means.

The way these auditions will work is like this - if you see a part below that you like, record each of the lines listed in the same manner and tone you'd use for the play itself. Then encode the thing into an MP3 or OGG at CD quality (128 kbs, 44 kHz) and email it to timelord23@hotmail.com, with the name you wish to be credited with, and your physical location wouldn't do so badly either.

Please take note of the deadlines, as decisions will be taken at that point with nearly no exceptions (unless, of course, we don't get any response, at which point we'll give an extension). If you have difficulties meeting a deadline please let me know. Also note that we will only consider auditions from people who send us the lines listed below - please don't just send us links or resumes with other roles you've played, we want to hear you playing these roles.

That's all we need to say. Good luck with auditioning!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Role: Annabel, female, mid 30s to 50s
Story appearing in: West Wind

Annabel is a professional musical theatre actress, having at least twenty years of experience on the professional stage in various productions, and is now currently appearing in the West End as Mary Poppins. She doesn't put up with nonsense, from anyone, be it her directors, her producers or any uppity chorus members that may decide to cross her path. While at times she may appear to be a diva, she does have a heart of gold and, while won't suffer fools gladly, her priority is always for the good of the show and maintaining professional standards.

As Annabel is playing the part of Mary Poppins during the course of West Wind, actresses auditioning should keep in mind they should be able to have a noticeable difference between the character's "real" voice and her "acting" voice. As "Mary", Annabel should closely resemble Julie Andrews's performance in the Disney movie. The voice of "Annabel" is left to the actress's discretion, keeping in mind the character description above.

The character is also required to sing, briefly, during the course of the play, as Mary Poppins. She will be singing an excerpt from "Practically Perfect", which can be found on YouTube. All those auditioning must include a sample of their singing ability in this style, preferably of the song itself.

Closing Date: 2 February 2009

Audition Pieces
ANNABEL: Look, Doctor, I don’t know what’s going on, but if it hasn’t escaped your noticed, I’m the star of this show. I’m Mary Poppins. And I can’t believe that the director and musical director of this show could possibly have cast someone new at this late notice. How are we supposed to give a high quality performance when we haven’t run the show all the way through together?

ANNABEL: Oh stop it, both of you. We all made the mistake of wandering directly into the monster headquarters, we’re all at fault for getting ourselves captured. Let’s just accept that and move swiftly onto the task of getting out again.
ANNABEL: (as Mary Poppins) “Now then, the qualifications. Item one, a cheery disposition - I am never cross. Item two: rosy cheeks - obviously. Item three: play games, all sorts. Well I’m sure the children will find my games extremely diverting. Item four, you must be kind. I am kind, but extremely firm.”
