Default Student looking for voiceover for class assignment

Hello everyone. I have an assignment for my P&D class to do a PSA for a subject that is a passion of mine. I chose Diabetes because most of my family has it. This is a very serious subject so the mood will be as such. The script should be read as follows:

"Diabetes is a chronic condition that affects over 150 million people in the world today.
That number is increasing due to lack of exercise and poor diet.
Diabetes can cause long term damage to the heart, liver and kidneys.
Diabeties can take everything from you, even your life.
Get yourself together and get a check up from your doctor.
For more information, go to www.diabetes.org
Don't let Diabetes tear YOU apart."

The spot is 60 seconds in running time and a dry read is fine. This is my first time doing this so if I left anything important out, let me know. If you could help me out I would appreciate it to no end. I am a poor starving student looking to get into the commercial biz later on when I get out into the field, so I will defintely keep you in mind for future porfitable endevers. Plus I am a club producer/DJ and would love to get some promos later on. Thank you for your time.

I will give it a dry read. Let me know when and if you still need it.

Michael, I hope we're not too late. He posted on the 7th of May. He may have already failed the course by now.

Apologies for not paying attention to this sooner. One big question is that he indicates the spot is 60 seconds in running time and yet when I read it at a pace that was probably slower than it should be read at, I came in at a pretty tight 30 seconds. I suppose I would wonder if this was a 30 second PSA and just a mistake saying 60 seconds or ...

I'm on the advisory board to several programs that teach various aspects of advertising and also audio/ video production and I'm often surprised at how litle of the basics of audio are taught.

My suggestion to anyone writing copy (and those delviering it) is to get a stop watch and use it. Read everything out loud at a relaxed pace (or if a frenzied pace is called for, hold back just a litle) If you come out at 27 - 29 seconds for tv and 56- 59 for radio, then you're probably pretty safe, unless you are looking at tossing in lots of sound effects or long passages of music at the front or end of the spot. Sometimes an effect or music is run under the v.o., but care should be taken that this doesn't detract from the read.

When in doubt, make scratch tracks with your own voice, evenm if it isn't the voice you envision doing the final v.o. At the least it will keep you from making mistakes that could add up to addional expenses.
