Mike, I'd love to send you a few test recordings to listen to as you've probably got much better ears than me! Let me know and I'll email them to you for a listen. I'm just not the RCA dog I used to be in my younger days!

It's difficult to do with out being in the room, just use a condenser mic or an omnidirectional mic.
