When it comes to a "personal use"home studio microphone, one has many choices, and the final choice is often limited to the affordability of such a mic, especially for the newbie.
So the only thing any of us can do is offer direction. Then it's up to the person to test drive and find what works best for them. If they last the test of time, they'll eventually move on to a better mic, or to whatever is on the short list of gold-standard mics that continually pop up in such transducer debates. |

Kyle, ditto what Bruce said. Deep voice + good condenser mic + wearing headphones = mud, if you're not careful.
To make the most of your voice, you need a decent condenser mic, and usually a mechanical pop filter to go in front of it. You'll need headphones to optimize how you address the mic, but then...try and work without them. |

I'd like to throw in that Berhringer makes a great little mic called the B-1 that I have used for over 5 years now I paid $99 plus tax. I know some people may p-shaw berhringer products, but they reverse engineer some mighty fine products to put out affordable quality equipment. (My B-1 sounds better than the mics I have used at most radio stations that I've worked for!)
BTW I'm moving this thread to Home Studio Converstations where it belongs. Chuck

The Studio Projects C1 is a very good mic for its price range. You also may want to try some MXL mics like the V87 (about $200 street) or V63M.
The best thing to do is test the mics out if you can at a music store. At the same time, test out a set of headphones that would go with it. And never underestimate the power of a good preamp which you're going to need as well if you don't have this already.
