Hi Everyone,
I have been accused of SPAMMING because of sending out emails announcing contests every couple of months. Hmmm... If this one person feels I'm spamming, do more? If you feel that it is spam to email info on contests, please tell me. I'd like to know how many, and who feel that way, because I felt like i was offering an opportunity for someone to win a great prize.

Julie,
What you do by offering and announcing VO contests is a tremendous service to all in the VO world. It certainly is not Spamming. We all are very lucky that you are willing to take the time and effort from your own busy life to offer this forum as well as the contests. If that one person feels they would not like to participate in some sort of free offering, then I suppose they can ask to be removed from the mail list. But, for me, keep 'em coming. Thank you very much for being a bright spot in VO world. Jon |

Well, techincally if you're sending out emails for any kind of commercial purpose on a regular basis to a list, then you are supposed to make sure that the people you send to have opted in. It's also a good idea to give them an option to opt out.
Personally, there are many, many annoying emails that I get and quite afew from businesses or individuals who send them to me on a regular basis. Your recent email regarding the SpiderMan video game isn't something I would partake in and quite frankly how good can that game be if they're not planning on using me for any of the voices? - but I enjoy being informed. I think it's important to pay attention to your critiques and detractors becuase we know for every one of them that is vocal, there are many more who may feel the same way and simply not express themselves. |

Hi Julie! Looking forward to meeting you in August at the VOICE 2008. Jon Morss' reply said it well. You know the old saying you can't please everyone all the time, well this must be one of those times so I wouldn't fret about it. The vast majority of us would see it as an opportunity. Thanks for the heads up too. I would love to be there in NY to audition for that cool gig if i could.

I promise not to send out viagra/lotto emails!
Actually, the VoiceOver Insider list is permission based. That is who I sent the email about the Kristine Oller contest to. Anyone can unsubscribe. YOu on the forum may hve received two emails...one from VOI list and one through this forum. You can unsubscribe from admin emails on this forum... (I've sent two out since August when the forum opened.) I am not sure how you unsubscribe from them, but if you want to unsubscribe from forum admin emails, Dan7 can help you. I figure, it's better to tell you about contests, than to have you out about them when it's too late to enter!

I think people need to lighten up! Your intent is good. "Delete" is just such a simple lil click if one isn't interested in reading yours, or anyone else's content or information.
I see so many folks here do nothing but complain! Pick the issue, there are complaints. Negative, negative, negative. C'mon, gang! Pick your priorities! The time it takes to ignore or not invest in the negatives can be spent moving forward, being proactive. Winners don't bitch! Losers don't dwell! Give back! Show gratitude!! Seems this is all Julie was offering in her "spam" of value. I applaud her, and thank her! And if someone accidentally sends a mass email to a group, which has happened to everyone from time to time, get over it! It the larger scheme of things, the time you will take to complain, correspond about being removed from a list, post another complaint on a forum to "warn others," etc., will take you far more time than to just "delete" the spam. |

Julie,
This is about the most riduclous thing I've seen on here, other than some of my posts, in a long time...I know the people before me have said it, but you are about as far from a spammer as it gets. Keep sending me stuff...I'm sure at some point you'll send me something I personally can take advantage of...and I will be forever indebted to you for it... ...to quote a famous lion..."Da noive" Jason Last edited by jason216; 04-14-2008 at 01:05 PM. |

If you wish to block admin emails click the "quick links" link above and go to edit options. there you will see an option to allow or deny admin and user emails. just click the boxes to select what you want and go to the bottom of the page and click save settings.

Once again, quite a bit of preaching to the choir here. As for lightening up, people will be people. My advice to Julie was simply to make sure her i's were dotted and t's were crossed. (Which they appear to be) Yes deleting is a simple thing to do and complaining seems to be on the rise. The problem is that if an email address gets reported enough as SPAM it will get tagged that way and emails from that address will get caught in many, many spam filters. It will get caught in SPAM filters that belong to people who want to see the email as well, unless that recipient has actually listed the email address as being from a "friend", "trusted source", etc.
I don't make the rules, if I did, the dogs and cats would be in charge. |
