I did it guys. Yesterday I quit my job to pursue voice over full time. I have my commercial demo recording session in less than a week, and the rest (animation, interactive and promo) to follow shortly after.
I am PSYCHED. It was really hard telling my boss that I was leaving since I do like my job and my coworkers very much, but I need to take this gamble on myself and do what we moved out here (Los Angeles) to do! What a wild roller coaster life is, isn't it? I'm just so glad to be along for the ride. (Wow, dude, I think that may be the CHEESIEST thing I've ever written.) I had to share with people that I know would understand my anticipation and excitement. :) |

that... Is... AWESOME!!!
A huge step indeed. I left my job about two years ago, so I'm only a couple cars ahead of you on the Audio Coaster Ride of Destiny! Can't wait to hear your new demos - and the new tales of your journey. Kudos and Congrats, Joe J Thomas Joe J. Thomas Acting Portfolio |

Congrats Michelle!
That scary-anticipation-excitement is really the best feeling ever. I had to burn a whole year in LA before I was able to start pursuing my track... Where are you getting your demo done (I might know them, lol)? |

Thanks guys.
It's very exciting, but very frightening at the same time. I've been doing alright on my own while working full time though so hopefully things will keep looking up! I know it's going to be hard to start, but I am determined to get there.SomeAudioGuy - I've burned 2.5 years out here so far, immersing myself in training and getting my skills up to be competitive. :) I'm getting my commercial & animation demos done with Richard Horvitz & Pat Torres (been studying with Richard for awhile now), Interactive Demo with Susan at Voicetrax West and my promo demo will be done with Leigh Gilbert, who I'm studying promos with currently. :) |

Oh Sweet! Good picks.
I'm pretty good friends with Artt over at VTW (we might start a workout group), he and his wife just had their first kid (bouncing baby girl), so if you see him, throw him a congrats. He'll get all blushy about it! |

Michelleann,
Congrats on the time spent acquiring the skill set to make that kind of decision, and for the jump into the circus...Hopefully you'll post some demos when they're done for us to hear. I wish I was on the west coast, but unless Speilberg calls, I'm stuck in Dallas/Ft Worth, grinding away every day...But, hey I'm in it...so step right up!!! (insert demonic circus music) May you have more work than you can handle. Jason |
