I have come to learn that this community is very diverse and multi talented. So this seems like a good place to ask this question.
I host and produce a radio program “Jazz Out of The Mainstream” it currently airs on WFDD (Wake Forest University is the License Holder) in Winston-Salem. Arbitron ranks the marked as # 45 not to shabby. Only artist that are not signed to a label deal are featured on the show. When we started the program we include in-depth interview with the artist, but have gotten away from that for logistical reasons. We will return to the interview format soon and who better to interview than a Jazz artist that does VO. If you are a Jazz artist and you gig on a regular basis and have a produced CD of you work then I would love to hear a sample of it. Point me to you web site or place where I can listen. I would like to consider it for inclusion on our rotation. The program is one hour per week on Saturday night at 9:00 PM. Our web site is www.jotm.org it can be streamed on www.wfdd.org on Saturdays. It is not currently available for pod casting yet.

Ed,
Very cool. I'm just starting to get into the Jazz realm after playing Rock and blues guitar for a long time. I have not recorded any music thus far but I have played at coffee shops and at work. Once I record some tunes, I’ll sling them your way and see what you think. Thanks for the posting. Jon |

Hi Ed - I have not recorded any jazz but have played a ton of it over the last 25 years - actually I did record 2 LPs with the University of Akron Jazz Ensemble when I was there from 1982-6 (and co-produced a CD retrospective with my jazz prof upon his retirement in 2000), and was a member of the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra - got to play one-offs with many giants including Mike Brecker, Wynton Marsalis, Red Rodney, Louis Bellson, Clark Terry, Dr Billy Taylor, Carl Fontana from the Kenton band - what a time and an education...most of my work was corporate jazz and the odd club dates. Looking forward to getting the wood back into my hands and laying a groove down, just gotta find some players in Wilmington (new town for me)...
Have fun with the show! CM www.myspace.com/powersalad www.coastalrecording.com/mezzo.htm |

Wilimington seem to be more of a Piedmont Blues town. When you have something send me a MP3. I see that you do moble recording. I did it for a while mostly at schools, a lot of work. Im going to try and go back out to churches and non-school venues with a new rig. Laptop-Firepod-Decca Tree with matched Peluso 22-251. I've included a photo taken of the mic on scoring stage at NC School of arts Film School.

That is so cool, Ed!
I have nothing to dowith Jazz... but having been in radio for 30 years, I realize that what you're offering is an opportunity that's not easy to come by for artists! THANK YOU for offering that here!

Thank you. Its a win win situation. There are great Jazz artist all over that are not signed. Jazz Out of The Mainsteam give them a showcase, and I get great jazz to present. We are looking for professionals that are outstanding. I tust that the folkes on this forum know their own skill level in music and I will get material that is usable.

Ed,
"Jazz" is such a HUGE genre. I am an entertainer/performer and have been on stage for over 30 years. I LOVE the music of the Rat Pack, Darin, etc. Some consider some of this music Jazz, but who knows. Check out the "Entertainer" section of my web site. I'd love the opportunity if I fit the profile you're looking for. (Chris-I'm in Canton, OH, just down the road from Akron U.) |

Hi Ed,
I've been a player and band leader for a looong time. Ironically, no really good recordings in all that time! I'd like to point you to some friends of mine: http://www.polyjesters.com/ Grant mentioned that Jazz is a huge genre... some may say the Polyjesters are jazz, some may say not. They've opened for a number of jazz festivals. They're great guys, fabulous entertainers and amazing musicians. If you drop them a line, let 'em know Dana says "hi!" |
