Wink A voices.com relatively newbie question

Hi guys!

Just wondering --

when we do an audition for a voices.com gig, -- from your experience, -- about how much time passes after the closing date, before you hear from the prospective client -- if you've got the gig (of course)?

Relative newbie, question no. 2 -- just as a mini survey --

Approx. how many auditions did you do before you hit payday, and landed your first client?

thanks!

Good questions Stef...

I've gotten booked the same day, and 3 months later!
The norm is about a week for me.

As for how many before I got my first, I don't keep track.
I just audition and let it go...

I'm in the Zen,

Thanks for your helpful advice!

Wonder what it's been like for others? I agree with your point, though -- just audition and let it go--move on to the next one.

Thanks for the encouragement...

I think I did around 125 auditions on Voice123 before I landed a paid job. I've done about 175 on Voices.com and have yet to get one, although I've lately been having enough dialog with of the seekers there that I'm reasonably confident I'll ultimately land that job.

WOW! That's the spirit!

We can't predict these things, can we. Maybe everybody's story is different. But it's encouraging for me to know how things go, and what our various forum members' experiences are!

Thanks.

Don't have a personal story like Joe but I remember years (many years) ago when I was first taking acting classes my teacher had one of the top Chicago actors (who was one of the rare 10 or so in Chicago doing voiceovers on a regular basis) come and give a talk about the business. One of the stories she told was that she auditioned for a commercial and about two years later got cast in the spot. They had put the project on hold and finally decided to produce the thing. So, anything can happen.

And, as with Lee, I haven't booked anything yet off of Voices of V123, but I did get a nice e-mail from a talent buyer in San Diego I submitted to through Voices who said that, even though I didn't book the gig, he liked my audition and I'm now on his short list. That was a very sweet thing to hear and, even though others may have the same reaction, they don't have the time to communicate it to talent.

So. as the oh, so wise Joe has said, do the audition and move on. A year from now you may get a call or e-mail from someone, wonder how they found you and book a gig.

Stef - I think it really depends on the talent and the client. I think if you polled 100 VO artists you would get 100 different answers. It is still a very interesting question and I would like to see the final results.

Thanks gang!

This is really great and helpful. Often when we're auditioning for these bits, it's kind of a solitary experience, and we haven't a clue what's going on with the rest of the v-o world.

So thanks for sharing!

Hi Stef,
I've been booked the same day, and I've been booked months later. THis is a tough question because I don't track every audition I do. There's no time. I just audition and go on with life...

If I had to guess, I'd say within a week.

Julie
