Default An Audition Question

A lot of us use V123, Voices.com and others like them. Companies use the service time and time again too When "Company A" wants a voice they ask for auditions and pick from what's sent to them from the service. So if you've auditioned for "Company A" 3 or 4 different times and got nothing from them, should you continue to audition for them? Taking a stab in the dark here...you start to think that your voice isn't what they're looking for EVER.
On the other hand you can say that every commercial might be looking for a different voice, so try again.
Comments are welcome

Well, I'll throw my 2 cents into the ring.

It's hard to tell on Voice123 since so many client details are hidden, but...

I've gotten work from clients on the first audition, then nada on subsequent ones.
Also auditioned a bunch of times for the same client, and finally got hired.

Hard to tell why, and probably depends on the client, size, etc.

So: If the audition fits me (and my budget), I'll post my take on it.

I try not to track who, what, where when too closely, but it's the nature of the marketing beastie.

Cheers,
Joe J Thomas

It's a big ol numbers game, Bry. If you are submitting an audition here, imagine how many hundreds of others are as well. If you audition through an agent the numbers are fewer, but still huge. But like Joe said, if the budget suits you what do you have to lose? Heck, even if you don't book it consider it a nice workout.

Now-you also need to evaluate your skills. Are you competitive? How is your branding? The sound of your voice is only one factor. It's your acting that will get you the gigs!

I would certainly audition again and again. It's not about whether they like your sound... if your acting skills are top notch, as Bob mentioned, then it's about if you are RIGHT for the part they're casting. You may be wrong for the first 10 parts and right for the 11th. Be careful not to take anything personally when you don't get a gig.

Let me add my two cents with a little story. There's a photographer in town who calls me in periodically for look sees for print work. I think I've been there about 5 times or so. I love the guy. Love auditioning for him and he's put me on hold twice for BIG jobs. One was for an Altoids print job that paid several thousands of dollars. I haven't booked one thing through him. He's wanted to use me twice but his client has always gone a different way. As Joe mentioned, since we don't know who we're auditioning for on V123, there's no way of knowing how many times you've auditioned for a particular talent buyer. And on the other services where you do know, you don't know how many layers of review your audition may have to go through before a decision is being made. Bottom line, they can't consider you for a gig if they don't know you exist. If nothing else, if you send a quality audition at least your work is being heard. I read in a marketing book that it takes 5-7 contacts before a potential client remembers you without nudging. So, if you consistently send good auditions to a talent buyer eventually you'll create a little memory synapse all of your own and they may think of you without being prompted.

It's just like the lottery: you can't win if you don't play. (However, your chances of winning are just about the same wether you buy a ticket or not.)

Hey Mr. Bry!

Glad to see you here :)

I'm in agreement with what the other folks are saying about "try, try again."
