Hey guys-- Pat Fraley and I are the Flavor of the Week on GDC Radio.
http://www.gdcradio.net/2007/09/crea..._voiceove.html The online description is wrong and I was unable to get it fixed in spite of calls and email. Here's the real thumbnail description (and it was a lecture, not a roundtable: Audio directors have a right to know what to expect from the voice actors that are hired to voice games. The object of this program is to discuss and demonstrate directing techniques actors can easily respond to, scripting that will wring a fuller character from your actor, and audition ideas to ascertain that you’re getting the VO you really need for a part in a game. Here's the "takeaway": Attendees will understand what voice actors can bring to the creative process of writing and audio design for interactive games, and will learn creative techniques for quickly getting a great range of choices for game dialog and other vocal necessities. Some of the quesions may be hard to hear. We didn't anticipate quite so much byplay, so we didn't ask for mics for the room— but the audience was immediately engaged. We just decided to roll with it. It was great fun and well received. Here's the cover art for the brochure we passed out to the attendees: ![]() Last edited by DB Cooper; 09-21-2007 at 10:20 AM. |

Hey!! You really are here. Very cool.
Wow! I would have loved to have been there for that one. I'm really interested in voicing for games and this would have been really cool to sit on. Will this be something that you and Pat plan to do on a regular basis or maybe make a workbook or DVD on the same subject? Thanks for the post, Jon |

Pat produced a "Game World" event that was a day of teaching and recording in LA.
It's not currently in the pipeline to become a recorded program and I don't know when he'll be offering it live again, but keep an eye on the teaching section of his website. www.patfraley.com My next foray is a trip to Seattle in October to speak to a group of developers and designers at Midway games. If I get a chance to teach with Pat again, you can bet I'll do it. |

Wow! What a great morning treat that was!
Thanks very much DB and Pat. Very informative and a great crowd. Wish I could have been there. So, where can I get a pair of those Voice Over Glasses? Joe J Thomas www.JoeActor.com |

I kinda thought that the Carolinas seemed like a happening region, too. That's not terribly far away.
Now, *I* live in Maine (DB lives in what we up here call "North Boston"... ) on the edge of civilization. It's become a bit of a quest for me to be able to work from up where I am. Just coming up with a plan to get ISDN going once we finally get a house (and I get some clients to justify having it...).Great lecture, though! Those folks sounded genuinely appreciative to have had some insight into how this end of their job works! It's also a good look into what a class with Pat is like. I spent about TWENTY hours with him and DB last fall in Boston. My brains were full, but they gave me a lot of tools that I've been using ever since. DB-- I assumed you were in L.A.!!!!!!! My bad September- YOU make whatever area you're in a hot market... I can't wait to read all about your adventures as the announcer of the MTV video awards 9in the October V-ZINE... !!!!! Sameera is writing the areticle so I haven't read it yet... b ut she was v e r y impressed with your hob nobbing! It's our COVER story!!! :) And remember KARA EDWARDS is in Carolinas... so that's bound to BECOME another great VO area with her anime stuff!!!! ![]() I LOVE VO these days...we can live anywhere! DB-- would you write a short synopsis of the GDC for the V-ZINE for us?" We can put it in as a column or just quotes that we'll put in a short news story...but you have so much to offer to VO talent across America!
