Default Custom Auditions

When submitting auditions at voice123 or voices.com, do clients expect talent to submit auditions that have a fancy slate at the beginning with effects and some one else's voice or do clients prefer a simple Hi, this is [so and so] reading for [such and such]?

I usually just slate with:
"This is Jon Morss reading for ..."

Would this be too simple?

I don't think it's too simple. In fact, just saying "This is Jon Morss," without reiterating the name of the client, is sufficient. Personally, I don't slate my auditions at all, although I may start doing so if I hear from a significant number of voice seekers that they prefer to have a slate.

Sometimes I don't slate at all. If I do...veeerrry short. They dont' want your life story...or someone else's fancy production. They want to hear your auditon...cos they've got lots more to listen to.

I've taken to slating at the end for my online submissions.
Just a simple "Joe J Thomas - online at JoeActor.com"

For agent submissions, it's at the beginning with name and agency.

My 2 cents,
Joe J Thomas

Red face

Being a voice.com newbie, I just received some tips on auditioning today. So I have duly started slating at the end of auditions. Just did a quick thing with my name for voices.com, thanks for listening. bye.

It's so funny to me. It sounds like an advert...cause I sound so cheerful & enthusiastic. even to myself!

Hey, maybe I'll get some commls just based on my slate. ha ha!

night gang! time to go raid the fridge for some dinner...

I've stopped slating my custom demos, since at Voice 123 recently, there have been quite a few seekers specifying no slates, either at the beginning or the end. Instead, I put my name in the title of the file - fleemco Brice Lewis.mp3. As long as they don't just burn them all to cd and delete them, they'll be able to find me.

Default Slating

I often don't slate.

But I ALWAYS name my files with my name and the client's.
As a voice seeker, I get so frustrated when I recieve 100 demos labelled "army" or "Army audition!" That doesn't give the client any way to know who you are iwthout listening for your slate! Imagine having to rename 100 files because talent didn't think through the process enough to think to name the file with THEIR OWN NAME in it!

Also, I always put my name, phone number and email address where you can put "artist" and "Album" info. on mp3 files.

At the back-end of mine, I just say "Custom audition - Robert Jadah." Then, I do the work and they send him the money. :)

Thumbs up

Thanks for the tip Julie. I'll start putting my name in the title of the file.
