There's a guy named Hal Gibney. Trying to research him leaves but little information. He was one of two announcers on the radio version of Dragnet. The way he said "Dragnet" intrigued me. The other announcer was George Fenneman. (You may remember him from the old Groucho Marx "You Bet Your Life" shows... but I digress.) Fenneman has a lot of info floating on him, but this Hal Gibney guy has scarce info.
So, in the spirit of the old Savvy days, I'd like to try to work up a mock of the "Hal Gibney" sound. Here's a classic Dragnet radio intro. (I have just about all the episodes if anyone is interested, some of the best radio drama I've heard production-wise.) As many know, I am a huge fan of radio drama as an instructional tool for VO's and just darn entertaining. Without further ado... Hal Gibney with a typical intro to "Dragnet...." "Your job... imitate it!"

Free coaching? (Oh.. I do that anyway.)
Good idea though Joe... have to think of a prize. Suggestions? Who will be the judges? (No pun intended.) It's hard to tell George and Hal apart at times. In this clip the part where he sets up the story.. "actual crime," etc is definately Hal. I think the main body of the cig ad is George. These two were probably the finest announcers in the 50's and define the term....
