Ditto Lee. I agreed to do it at the high end of his stated budget. To me, that kind of reading is just easy and natural. Not very hard work at all.

I'm really sorry if some were missed out in our thank you email, you being left out of it was simply an omission (we had to send it to a LOT of people, and must have missed few incoming emails) but I can assure you that all auditions received were forwarded to our client.
Regarding the rate, it might be lower than the standard in the USA but is pretty much standard for regular ongoing work over here in the UK, recorded in a home studio and delivered by ftp - as opposed to recording in a studio in London, which attracts much higher fees. The reason behind this is that it's work done in your own time rather than at a predifined booked time, slot for which you then cannot accept another booking (in other words, the client is more flexible). As Julie said I am also a voiceover artist and despite being very well established in my market and having done this professionally for the last 14 years I would be happy to do a similar gig in the same conditions, taking two hours of my time for the amount mentioned, at least once, sometimes more, times a month - but each to their own! Again, good luck to all! Check my VO profile at http://www.voicefinder.biz/voice/pierre-maubouche |

I don't want to create the impression that I am complaining about the budget for this job. Obviously, if I were unwilling to do the work for that kind of money I would not have submitted an audition. And it would appear that I was by no means alone in responding. I was merely pointing out that this is not the most lucrative project out there and Pierre's clients are the lucky ones to have so many top quality voices from which to choose.
Pierre is correct that this would appear to be a relatively effort-free project but, let's face it, isn't that the way it is with most of what we voiceover guys & gals do? We are mostly selling our skill rather than our labor. I like to describe voiceover work as extremely easy if you can do it, and impossible if you can't. Besides, I imagine the bulk of the business we are attempting to generate from sites such as Voices.com and Voice123 is work we would do in our home studios rather than travelling to a facility in London or NY or LA or Anytown, USA.

I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I was saying it was an effort-free project. Being talent myself I would never say that, as I know what it represents to make a job sound effortless.
And I agree that it is not the most lucrative job ever. I was merely pointing that rates are different according to countries, to types of jobs and their regularity, and that although not the best it's not too shabby a deal either. By the way, what is the average charge per hour in the USA when you record in a studio - and when you record at home? Or do you charge per job, like in France? |
