I expect to make my living at this someday. The purpose of my endeavor was to go back to my roots to carry me into the twilight years with an income while doing something I am good at. Life has dealt me a lot of adversity, I'm used to it.

A few years ago, I was on the verge of losing my house. Now I am approaching security. Yes... I work all day at a job in radio. But I am in a studio all day. A lot of dull work but about 20% of it is doing what I want to do. Then at night, I've made great strides.

I go back to being five years old and wanting to be on the radio.

Thanks JS. It appears to me that we are on opposite ends of a semi-circle where the disagreements tend to grow closer to agreement.

here i was, thinking my current skills would guarantee me buckets of bucks and an assured retirement at a lovely beach house in Newark, only to have my hopes and dreams dashed by a couple of VO muckity mucks...

in my typed words can you by chance see my tongue firmly planted in my cheek?

seriously... yes, i was a bit miffed at first w/ the critics, and withdrew into an insecure state of self doubt and evaluation.. i was quite frazzled in assuming the pointedness and directness was somehow targeted exclusively at me; not just as a neophyte VO, but as a person. that pissed me off!!!

however, being a non-dualist, i put aside the all too normal (at least for me) piss-offed-ness, and became very pensive and open.. like my english lit' teacher Sister Julia once said: it takes a humiliation to develop humility... i was able to discard the perception that my critics had the intent to cause harm, and realized they were right..

thanks to my critics i didn't quit my day job, bought something better than a "Mister Microphone" signal chain for demos, and most importantly of all, began taking voice and acting lessons, and learning Marketing 101...

so, just you wait!!! heh ... no no no, i'm not, nor ever will be, motivated in the "i'll show them" sense, that just feeds piss-offed-ness... but, i'll continue patient persistent practice and keep listening and learning...

btw, i'll never retire to that beach house in Newark.. i'm so puckerbrush conditioned that big cities scare me..

thanks to all my critics!! you were right!!

What people expect to happen is always different from what actually happens. From this comes great disappointment; this is the way the world works

Oh, Mr. Bigl, you do crack me up!

What you wrote reminds me of the advice I gave my daughters when they were disappointed they weren't on the starting line-up for waterpolo; Get better. That's the same advice I myself take and recommend to anyone wanting to be top notch at anything. Be an active participant in your pursuits and always strive for greatness.

Didn't get to read the deleted posts. Bet they were juicy! ha ha!!!
