Well then, maybe this will start to bring this forum to life ;-)

I am a native German speaking VO living in Switzerland - and I'm in the business since more than 20 years. Although I have my own recording studio and ISDN link equipment since many years, the usual way of doing vo recording here in Europe is still: meet your client in a studio face to face! But one year ago I found a couple of VO sites in the U.S. and more and more I'm getting leads and jobs from all over the world :-)

This is also the reason why I had to set up a brand new website - this time also offering an English version. But as I said before: I'm native German speaking and translating into English is a completely different business than voice acting ;-) I've set up a basic translation but am not happy at all with it. So, hello to all other VO talents in this forum: if there is anybody out there willing to correct and improve my bad written English web pages, please give me a short message. I could forward you the link to the (not yet published) site - let me know what you think, what you could do for me and tell me, what I could do for you in return. Do you need a German translation, a German intro for your demo files or travelling tips to Germany and Switzerland? :-)

Hey Thomas - happy to see a "First Post" in this forum!

I'm just starting to pick up a second language (Japanese), so I can imagine the challenges you're facing.

Based on your English here, I'd say you've got a great handle on the language.

But you know, whenever I see a foreign webpage with german translations that have a kind of bablefish taste, it distracts from the real content. So I would really appreciate some hints from native speakers how to improve my basic translations... It's not much, just the pages/links under the topics "Start" and "Services" - the news section will not be translated, but future news will be added in German and English.

Hey Thomas,

I took a quick scan at your pages, and found most of them to be very well translated. If I *have* to be picky, you may consider changing the following sentence to make it flow a bit better:
"After graduation in "Music and Performing Arts" in Germany as well as several years of practical work as actor and musician, I started to concentrate more and more on voice acting and directing."

It's mostly the beginning, I think. Perhaps something like "After graduating with a degree in..." or even "I studied Music and Performing Arts in Germany. After graduation..."

As for my commercials, I'm still waiting to get a copy (but not holding my breath ;-)

Yes, you're absolutely right, I wasn't happy with that sentence either. I will change it to something easier right away!

P.S. regarding your "swiss" radio commercials - if they're as good as your "yodeling lederhosen", why wouldn't you try to apply for some swiss jobs here

Costa Rica's beautiful. I spent a week in the rain forrest there a few years back (thought about moving there too!)

Wow, Stef... that's wonderful! It must come in handy if you do any anime or Japanese game work...

I started learning for several reasons: Accent for VO, my wife speaks Japanese (and Mandarin, and English), and I wanted a bit of a challenge.

I'm still in the Beginner level. I would probably need some formal classes or immersion in the culture to really be conversational.
