Hey Grant. Don't BOTS and creepy crawlies of all kinds navigate through sites like this and others picking up e-mail addresses and web site addresses and everything else that is not nailed down? As an example if I have my e-mail address as part of my signature...am I leaving myself open to future SPAM attacks by the collection BOTS?
I changed my signature to just an embedded link of my website and eliminated my e-mail address...does this help at all or are we all doomed? 8)

We're all doomed.
 I'm not an expert on the bots and all, but suffice to say that somebody, somewhere is trying to find ANY legit email address they can get their greedy, grimees on. So I figure they're trolling forums like this. It's one reason that when we still had less than 50 members here, we already had "trash members" entering with porn sites and more. Yup, there's bots to find boards like this, even ones specifically looking for PHBB code. They're looking to exploit it. By having your email address in a sig line, I'm not sure you're more open to "Future" attacks. You ARE open to ANY attack. Once they find you, good luck eliminating them. One strategy is to NOT EVER just plop your email addresses out there. See this thread for a bit of strategy. |
