I am going to try it. I have a spare hard drive and am curious about an alternative operating system. Stay tuned. <g>

It's designed for Linux, not Windows. Just in case anybody didn't get that.

I've been playing with it and it's very nice. It is an operating system with software combined. Ubuntu Studio 7.10 has to be downloaded and put on a DVD to be loaded on a hard drive. In not only has Firefox browser and Open Office, but come with Audicity and a multi track software that is really cool. You get to decide on setup if you want audio, video editing and graphics software loaded.

Ubuntu recognized all of my hardware and loaded the appropriate drivers. M-Audio is one of the companies that makes drivers for and plays well with Linux and Ubuntu. You can also load Windows software thanks to a free program named Wine that emulates Windows and .dll files. (I'm not sure I explained that correctly.

This operating system has everything you'd need to turn a computer into an audio, video and graphics machine. Simply put, it has all the software you'd ever need to make a handy DAW.

A huge feature is the Add/remove button. It takes you to the Repository for Ubuntu and Linus. While testing it as I would my own DAW I was wondering how I would FTP the file to my web host. I clicked Add/Remove and typed FTP in the search area. Up popped several programs. I checked one and it downloaded and installed. Simple..easy! Oh, and any program you don't want it can unload it the same way. There's even an Emulator program to allow you to run many Windows software programs. I haven't tested that yet. I still have to work, ya know. <g>

I am no expert nor claim to be. I'm just a guy trying to make a living using Windows 2000. I'll keep experimenting with the program. There are folks out there that are going to really enjoy this software, I loaded the regular Ubuntu on my computer first and it's solid as a rock. Even Dell is offering Ubuntu as an option over Vista to new computer buyers. Now I can see why. (Although I'd love to see how they add all their bloat ware to it. )

I'd love to hear what others have to say.

Looks real cool. It's a scaled down version of the Ubuntu Linux distro. Ubuntu is a real popular flavor of Linux now a days since Red Hat and Suse have gone more commercial. I've see the Ubuntu OS running on a Laptop and it had real cool 3-D effects. Since it is Open Source you may have fairly good luck getting drivers for other audio hardware.

I'll have to check this one out.

Thanks for the post.
