Hi folks,

I'm a real newbie, as you'll see by the question.

When you send a copy of your demo via email, what's the terminology called?
In other words I have a hard copy cd version, but if I want to have that link or file to send via email, how is that done?

And can any recording studio do this??

Thanks!

Hi nhbmark - welcome!

If you have a CD version, you'll need to "rip" it to an mp3.
Windows Media Player can do this - search the help for "rip".
You'll have to specify you want an mp3. A bit rate of 128k is fine for e-mail or download.

There are many other tools that can rip from CDs, on both the PC and MAC.

Once you have an mp3 version, just attach it like any other file to an e-mail.
If you want to provide a link, you'll need to host it on a web site. Voices.com will let you upload your demo to their site, or if you have your own, you can put it there.

If you have a chance, please post an introduction in the "Welcome" section so we know a bit more about your experience and goals. That will help us better tailor our replies in the future.

Have a look around - many questions have already been posted and answered. Just do a search and see what you come up with...

Nice to meet you,

nhbmark - Yeah. What Joe said. If you are using Mac OS X, you can use iTunes to import the files from CD and then convert them to .mp3.

putfile.com is another online place where you can send your media. 200 MB max, unlimited uploads.

Caution! Dont' ever send UNSOLICITED demos via email. Always ask permission first... unless it's for an agent or client who specifically states on their website to send it to a certain email address.

These days... believe it or not, a lot of professionals...even agents, still have email accounts with limits. You don't want to clutter their mailboxes!!!!
