Hi All,

Ok, I'll kick this thing off with an acronym filled read from today's audition:

Ok... been promising for weeks, so...

Here are 3 "less-common" animal sounds for you (attached below).

I'll bet there are some great animals or halloween sounds y'all have been saving up. I'd love to hear some others make fools of themselves, er... post their "less-common" stuff.

All Hallows Eve Eve,

Ah, just recovered from a Mac Attack. iMac is up and running again.

Alright, more bird noises. Here is something I did some time back. Its only part of the sketch though.

Halloween aud coming next.

Hey Jon - really like the idea of mouth sounds replacing words... I can totally see that working for kids stories too...

Ok, I'll bare my sensitive underbelly and post an audition from this week. No animals involved (or harmed) in the making of this demo...

Nice... but would it fool a Spaniard?

So, do you speak Spanish?

Oh, and next time, use some animals,

Alan -- Very nice accent. It's subtle and effective. I think you could have put more emotion into the read though. You need to get people to want to come to the restaurant so you need to sound like you are excited about the place as well. It was nice read none the less

Joe,

Thanks! It would most assuredly not fool a Spaniard. Maybe a deaf Spaniard... but I digress. Oh, and I speak just enough Spanish to get myself arrested.

Jon,

Thank you! I agree on the lack of emotion. I find myself concentrating too much on maintaining the accent and not enough on the dynamics of the read.

Thanks guys!

Alan - I hear ya. I think with more passion this spot would have been dead on. Very nice work. Love the sound of your system. Which mic was used for this?

This one was done with an AKG Perception 200. I've been using a Rode NT1000 for a few months now, but I dragged the 200 out for this one. I forgot how nice the mic sounds (without picking up my neighbors having a quiet conversation in their basement...:) )

If you'd like to hear a bit from my new audio book "Road Stories of the Real Highway Comics" I posted it in Chit Chat. Love to hear what you think.

Here's a couple I did this week.

Diane,

Great emotion on the graveside one. I enjoyed the pacing as well. I tend to rush, so it was nice to hear.

The drinking water take was smooth, but I wanted to hear a bit more "connection" to the person you were speaking to...

There were also just a couple of slightly muddled words in both, but I wouldn't want you to over-pronunciate and sound less real.

Nice job!,

Thanks, Joe.
I'm working on making those connections -- visualization and the like. I've also been trying some new relaxation techniques before recording. Maybe some out there would like to share their prerecording prep work/rituals? I heard the words too, but since I wanted the mother to sound like she'd been crying, I think it fit. The other, not so much -- should have cleaned that up.

I like the suggestion of doing a bit of relaxation before recording. Maybe that would help me slow down and focus a bit more.

Nice tip!

Here's an odd one to try: Blow on your Thumb - it's supposed to stimulate the vagus nerve and get your heart rate down...

Well, I usually do character auditions, but since it's Saturday, here's a serious one:

Would love to hear what others submitted for this one.

Lots of shots at this one over at "TOF", there may be a bit of duplicity by my posting it here, but wanted to get back in the swing here. I love doing characters, it's what I've done since I was little, but seem to get more gigs just as "me" (and THAT's no fun!! - - oh wait, it is.)

A few more days and off to Akron/NE Ohio (where I lived for ~25 years) to perform at a sci-fi/fantasy convention as Power Salad - will I be able to sing "My Cat Is Afraid of the Vacuum Cleaner" in one breath?!?!?!?! Stay tuned!....

Chris,

Funny! "Blew my Touk!"

Which Sci-Fi convention are you headed to?
(I used to frequent them when I lived in Cleve-burgh)

Vic will meet you there ;-)

Chris - Great job. Nice build up of emotions towards to the "... Blew my Touk!" statement. I had seen this posted and was going to take a shot at it but I was not sure whether to do a regular read or add a Doug and Bob McKenzie type of character. I did not want to offend anyone. Your read was well done.

biggry - I really dig what I have heard so far with the "Road Stories of the Real Highway Comics"
One question though. Is the whole thing read with the same vocal intensity as the sample. I felt you were sort of yelling the whole time which seemed to take a bit of the edge off of the punch line. I would have preferred a straight read like you are telling a friend a story and then build the emotion to the part where Brad G. gave the speech. I'll have to buy this to hear the whole thing.

Thanks for the post.

Jon, The intensity changes from story to story but over all the read of the book is "up". The narration parts between the stories that are little more down. Thank you so much for taking the time to listen. I'm glad you thought it was amusing.
