Sent from agent today... looking for :
Male. 30-60. Would like to keep age open for now because I’m not sure exactly what we want yet. We’re building a personality for the brand that is fun, but a bit quirky. Whether it’s his voice, his cadence, or something else, we’re hoping the Anncr can match the spots and the brand personality. HOWEVER, these should not be read in a “whacky” voice. They should be read straight and any personality should come through subtly.
I love directions.

Love your stuff, Chadd. That's no exception. Considering that somewhat contradictory direction, you did awesome. ;)

Dunno yet, but I'm hoping for the Koala one (posted below).

Chad -- Nice relaxed read. You're really getting that real guy sound down. Well done.
Joe -- Great reads as always. You can really feel the emotion in the first read and the second was fun to listen to. I could visualize you playing with a dog. Cool stuff.
Here are a couple of items from me. The first one was an audition for Hollywood Video where they were looking for an impression of Yoda from Star Wars. I took the advice from Pat Fraley and added the R2-D2 sound FX and voiced the Ryan character just to give them an idea of what my Yoda might sound like in the spot. Just listen the first part since the second part of the aud is only the Yoda voice. The second audio is something that has become sort of a tradition with me. Each year I record the Birthday song for my wife using different characters. Last year I did my bad impression of Homer and this year I gathered some of my own character voices to sing the song. I take the audio and use it as the login sound for my wife's computer so when she starts it up she will hear this. I thought you all might get a kick out of it. Sorry for the long message.

No sense in complimenting any individual demos I've heard in this thread so far. Every one has been a winner!
Here's my version of the Red Bed spot.
While I'm at it, I'll also post a couple more from Voices.com. One is for Bada Ding Body Shop, which I did two ways; the first one was "normal" and the second take was the way I thought a business with that name ought to be promoted.
And finally, two different characters for some wierd cartoon project. The fist chracter is a grizzled, middle-aged man and the second one is an apparently gay snake.
Emorgan_Voiceovers
04-16-2009, 12:46 PM
A gay snake :D:D:rofl:
Great job on those reads Lee. I love your character stuff.
JoeActor

Lee... you gotta stop auditioning for all the same stuff I am!
I think I like your tough guy the best, followed by the Bada Ding one...
Good stuff peeps,
Joe

04-16-2009, 09:35 PM
Lee - Ditto what Joe said. Great stuff man.
I too took a shot at the Tough Guy and the Gay Snake.
Also, the third aud was from a private invite. They were looking for a Teen voice for Young Golden Retriever Dog in a Training vid. I add the announcer at the end just to round things out.

Here's one I did today at Voices.com. I'm not even sure why I bother. This guy has is the production person at a TV station in Utah and posts a gazillion auditions on Voices.com, many of which I have submitted demos for but I've never heard a word from him. Either he doesn't like my stuff or my bids are out of his price range.
But this one looked like fun. In the first part of this spot I'm playing a cockroach. (The guy actually felt he had to specify that the announcer part should sound different from the cockroach.)
Jon Morss
04-20-2009, 06:54 PM
Lee -- We have to quit meeting like this. I too auditioned for that spot, but I think you really nailed it.
Here's my take on it.
The second spot was an event trailer read that I attempted.

Great reads, all!
Here are a few: A promo-DVD-thing, a travel e-book, 2-for-one FTD spots (don't fuggetabout Momma!)-- seems like a couple of these are a lil choppy-flow in some places:idiot2:.
Fingers, toes & eyes crossed... and lowercase "j's" dotted.... for everyone!

I trust you, man.
I don't mean to hog this section but I figured I'd post a couple more I did today. The first one called for a football coach and three vehicles trying out for the team: a sporty car, a burly pickup truck, and an intellectual minivan) and I threw in the announcer tag for good measure.
The other one called for a Billy Mays clone and since everybody knows how much I admire the ole Billy-goat, I just had to do it.

Alex, that was awesome!! Wasn't sure if he was supposed to be more of a Scrappy-doo trying to fight the wind and monsters with his little bandanna.... So that's what I did for the trailer. I feel a bit goofy now. :notworthy:
Another for that same client, but for different (?) children's book.

Man guys, very cool stuff.
Great reads all.
Joe - I'd like to hear your take on the Babu thing. I'm sure it was spot on.
Alex - Real nice read on that kids trailer.
Chadd - Don't feel bad, I too went more towards a younger sound, but then gave them a standard read as well. I dig your take on the Always trailer and the Baby Dragon read was cool. The Red Robin spot was awesome. I like the Yummm... at the end. Nice touch.

Chadd - Thanks for the kind words! And you shouldn't feel goofy... you made a strong choice. That's one of the cool things about this board is getting to hear different interpretations. For me it's hard to get a feel for a kids book without seeing the illustrations to get an idea of tone, mood, etc...
Jon, thought your takes were great also.... and I really liked the way you pitched yourself inside your Babu read you posted earlier. You do a good job of establishing character with your slates.

It's been quite a while since I posted anything, wow!
Alrighty, this first one is for an animated film. The movie is about a teenage girl growing up and finding her place in the world. The listed me as likely hiring, which would be majorly cool, but I know not to get my hopes up too much when that happens. lol
The second one is an audition that I did this morning for a promo that would run during a major concert event. My voice is still recovering from being out late at Bob Bergen's show, but I still had fun with it!

Joe -- Great work on the Babu thing. I thought the "I Spy ..." addition was a nice touch. The cloage you posted was real cool as well. Seems like we are going after the same spots. My SFX added version of Scott is listed below. I gave them a clean read as well, but I sort of got carried away with the SFX thing. Yeah Pro Tools.
LindZ - I hope you had a great time at the Bob B. show. You have that teen character down pat. Imagines of my own daughter started to pop in my head listening to you. Nice work.

James - That was very cool. For me, I think yours is a winner. Good Luck man.
Lee -- There was no copy for the Babu aud. My approach to the aud, since there was no copy provided, was to listen to the sample that was provided, pieced together some dialog from it and took the opportunity to ad-lib a bit. It was a shot in the dark.
Joe -- Yeah, I know, I did get a bit carried away with the Scott aud, but I enjoyed putting it together. I did provide the read without SFX so they could hear me without all of the background noise. Next time, more me, less SFX. Thanks.

Thanks Joe and Jon! The client will have a tough call with the ones posted here alone. Good stuff! I knew the voice was close to one I already do so I put a little extra into the audition and read all the lines from the link provided. It's always tough when you don't really know what they're looking for. Maybe they like more of an improv version.
I might also have priced myself out of the gig. I don't know if they want to replicate lines, like I did, or just read in character but even their high end of the budget was a bit low. We'll see. It would be fun though...I like the little guy.
