Hey, all!

I figured this was the best place to post a cry of triumph for another step forward. This may seem like old hat to most of you veteran voices out there, but it's absolutely a huge deal for me, and I thought I'd share. :)

The main components to my equipment set have arrived. The picture is phone quality, so you can't see the detail very well, but here's a general list of my plunder:

- Marshall MXL 2006 w/shock mount
- Behringer Tube Ultragain Mdl. T1953 preamp
- Behringer MicroPower PS400 phantom power supply
- Yamaha RH2C stereo headphones

Looks like I'll be eating condiments for a few weeks. Oh well. I like mustard!

Cables, stands, supports etc forthcoming, have the supplies to make my pop filter (just haven't had time to sit down and do it), and have taken all the shelves and stuff out of my closet. I have some acoustic foam I bought from my boss (who just refinished his basement for his son's band), and will be lining the closet this coming weekend. I'm hoping to have everything connected by early next week (my first VA-specific lesson is next Friday, and I'm so happy that I could spontaneously combust). Am looking forward to practising on something better than a Logitech, and in something better than a drywalled room with a noisy PC.

My enthusiasm is nauseating, but in the best possible way. At least for me. I can't adequately estimate the strength of this board's collective gastrointestinal fortitude.

:afro:

Anyway, I'm most certainly going to have a treasure trove of "stupid little newbie questions" along the way, so thank you for existing. Not just for the technical information and resources, but for your stories of experience and realistic descriptions of the industry.

Cheers,
Lea

Thank you! I have a sense that spending the money was the easy part, though ... and I think the anticipation of doing something with all of this is going to drive me crazy. Er. Crazier.

Enthusiasm in NEVER nauseating, it's inspiring.

Very cool, Lea!

Remember: talk into the end with the windscreen.

Remember: talk into the end with the windscreen.

I'll try to remember. I dunno, sometimes I'm amazed that I can walk and breathe at the same time. ;)

And thanks, Colin. :)

Wooooo! Bright shiny stuff.

Congratulations Lea, I remember my first microphone and preamp, I was just a little guy then.

Oh and don't clean all the junk out of the closet, that junk is conducive to good sound design, all the textures and densities.

Lea, congrats on the new toys! It's always tough to budget for equipment. Right now, you're wondering, "Did I really need to spend this much?" A year from now, "How did I get by without a Neumann?" ;)

Congratulations to you. I remember when I ordered my stuff. I could not wait until it arrived. Kind of like a kid at Christmas. Make sure you post some audio for us when you get it all hooked up!!

Sorry to say Mike that you have your posters mixed up. I've been talking into the right side of a microphone for most of my natural life.

Yes. Indeed Colin I did mix up my "posters".
Correction noted and made.

Sadly, everyone's favorite "Angel" has been battling cancer lately and time has taken its toll. My thoughts and prayers are with her.
(Sorry about the threadjack, Lea).

No problems about the threadjack. Thoughts and prayers should go to those who need them. :)

Thank you to everyone for the encouragement. I'll be doing some practise stuff with it before I share anything (want to make sure I'm comfortable with it first) but I'm eager to do so.

My first lesson was yesterday and it was magnificent. Looks like there may be more to come, which I'm also quite excited over. Huzzah!
