I have plans to dedicate a computer to feeding up all the audio stuff I've collected. Of course there are issues with ASCAP/BMI, etc.
Anyway, my plan is to offer music, old time radio, VO friends contributions... whatever. Complete variety.
Test run through tonight and tomorrow.
Also, plan to make it work with more than just Winamp, but that's how it is for now.

Just curious - since you admit there are legal issues with the music licenses, unless you plan to pay the rate and do the paperwork involved, why are you pursuing this?
They WILL catch you. They WILL fine you. Can you afford that risk?
Until the law is changed, or the rates become more affordable, I advise caution. You're really sticking your neck out.

I'm just playing around with the technical aspects of doing something like this. I know about the licensing issues. If I were to publicise something like this, I would only use public domain and user submitted material. Only about four of five people are hearing this.
Allen, you've sufficiently scared me so I just changed it to all old time radio and speeches, etc. I believe those are public domain.
My idea would be sort of a "VO radio" with folks demos and podcasts filled in with old radio shows and stuff like that.

Don't mean to frighten you, Colin. But the risk is really, really high.
I'm a standards fan, and I have my own station, too. The temptation is there, once you get a station going, to broadcast it to the world. Heck, I even have my own FM transmitter. (Just covers my property.) So, I'm very familiar with the allure of experimenting. :afro:
My wife and I love our station. She even records little drop-ins dedicating songs to her girlfriends when they're over for dinner. Great, geeky fun! But, you just have to fight the impulse to give it to the world or you'll be giving $ to the music police.
Trouble is, once your get that "listen.pls" ip, or a windows media stream out there, you might as well have turned on a neon sign to attract the music lawyers. Right now, they hold all the cards. Even if you keep it private, the law is written in their favor should they wish to enforce it.

Well Colin, you have my permission to cast as much Power Salad or stuff from the Marianth Records catalog as you'd like :-)

Changed it up quite a bit tonight to more of what I envision... "VO radio." Still very much in pre-beta now... but much less of the boring political speeches... I've included all 60 of the Voices.com podcasts... several of the voice over demos I've produced over the last few years... a lot of the more famous VoiceOverSavvy stuff including the "V321" stuff, if you know what that even is... BUT still old time radio for fill.
It's slow progress.

Aah, "V321.ru".... talk about a rolling snowball :-)
I've tried to listen, but so far nothing happens. Are you broadcasting 24/7 or do you shut it down for the night?

Should be working but you need Winamp to listen. Do you have Winamp?

Sure, although a very old version, simply because after v2.81, WinAmp was shit... but maybe it wont work on an old version?
All I get is this:

Actually, it isn't Winamp only. Out of 5 players (Totem Movie Player, MPlayer, Rhythmbox, VLC, and XMMS), the only one that didn't work for me was XMMS.

Jacob, they revamped Winamp after version 5 to essentially take it back to its original state. Download the latest lite version.
It's off now, but I'm starting it back up as soon as I finish typing this.

Best of old radio commercials on now. There is VO instruction in all of this. When you listen to the "true" voice actors before they had video to fill your mind with images, these folks filled minds with images that were everlasting.
Next... going to do some 'imaging."

Colin,
Also works with Nero Showtime Essential. Also here's a link to some great public domain radio shows for you.
